@wheres_c: LOL. Here I am! I think you have gotten some good advice from the doctor's office. Do you have a Nose Frida? I find it helps suck the snot out so much better than the regular bulb syringe.

Also, good reasons to bring the baby in would be if you note any respiratory distress (accessory muscle use, nasal flaring, head bobbing), signs of dehydration (less than 3 wet diapers/day, sunken fontanelle, unable to make tears or saliva).

I think your doctor's office is right. Saline is hugely helpful. We live near the beach, so when we get sick, we haul ourselves over there when it gets windy-ish and inhale deeply! If you can't get there, the other way I unclog noses/relieve cold symptoms is a bucket bath for LO with the shower running warm to hot for a while. I place the baby bath outside of range of the hot water. Close the bathroom door and put a towel along the bottom of the door to create a sauna. Make sure LO gets a lot to drink afterwards if you decide to go the steamy bathroom route.

@wheres_c: i am "that" first time mom and not ashamed to admit it! LO is also 4 months old and we are going on week three of a cold with a nasty cough. It started getting better, but then this past Friday he was having coughing fits all night that were full oh phlegm. Took him to th ER on the advice of our on call ped so he could get a chest X-ray and it was clear. Nasal drip is making the cough like it is (me popping out of bed to pat his back as he has fits through the night), so we use the nosefreida to get as much snot out several times a day. The past three days we have been using Johnson's baby vapor bath and it seems to help him clear up and have a better night although the cough is still there just not as bad. Cool mist humidifier is a must too! Just wanted you to know you are or alone.... Having a sick baby stinks!!
