Is it just nap time when he's disruptive?

Maybe you can talk with her about what you do at nap time and leading up to calm him down for nap time?

What does she do when he's screaming? She just lets him?! LOL

@tlcbaby: Not all kids respond well to timeout and it might be that your son is one of those or it might be a result of how they implement timeout. If he recently started daycare, he may be testing limits or responding to differences between how you and the caregiver handle things. The discipline approach should be a collaboration between you and your provider.

Is the problem just nap time or are there other behavior issues? What would you do if he did refuse to nap at home? You want to come up with a strategy you are comfortable with for consistency.

For that age, my two ideas would be using a behavior chart to promote the desired behavior (nap or lie quietly during nap) with something special he can earn, or losing privileges. At that age, my daughter did well with a behavior chart for teeth brushing (and earned an extra book at bedtime) and the idea that she would lose TV if she could not stay in her room until her toddler clock told her to get up in the morning. Just some examples...

Interesting have you discussed how you put him down so she can mimic it?

Otherwise in my experience when my son was drastically different at daycare than at home, it was a daycare issue. I believe he was being bullied and believed that's what you do at that school. We had none of the issues at another school. So we did move him as soon as we could.

I've been reading more and more about the negative emotional impacts of a behavior chart.

@T.H.O.U.: Interesting reading! I use behavior charts only to reward positive behavior rather than the kind of color chart described in the first link. I can see how the positive/negative issue is a problem, but I wonder about only earning stars/stickers toward a goal. Once you earn a star, you can't lose it. A lot of the way we implement them is similar to how she describes the goal sheets as a an alternative.
