We have the Tripp Trapp and we currently use it with a tray. We are currently in a rental and we eat at the island. We will be moving into our house in about 2 months and we will use it with our dining room table. We didn't get the cushion wasn't really necessary, I love the clean design and how easy it is to clean. I love that it grows with LO.

We have the Tripp Trapp and never purchased the accompanying tray. DD just eats pulled up to the table with us. She doesn't make as much of a mess as she used to, but we do have a plastic splat mat laid out under her high chair. I'm guessing it will be staying there for many months to come. In general, we love the Tripp Trapp, and I like that we'll be able to use it for many years to come, given the price tag.

@skibobrown: ahh a splat mat, that's smart. If we had a separate dining room we would do something like that, but there's really no place for us to put one where people won't be walking. But I guess that's an issue with any high chair, since kids throw stuff off it regardless of the type!

If u are super crunched w/ space, maybe just get a clip on chair (we have a chicco) or there's a fisher price seat that has a back and all, and you just strap it on top of a dining room chair.

@winniebee: we looked at the clip on chair, but our dining room table has a ledge/lip under it, and it looks like those chairs don't work in that case. I also looked at the space saver chairs, but DH didn't like the look of them.

@hilsy85: The chicco should still work - others will not, though.

@hilsy85: The little legs pull way down and I haven't had a problem putting in on tables w/ lips (though MIL has the inglesia and so I know exactly what you are talking about -- that doesn't pull down far enough).
