I tested with high prolactin once on a hormone panel they were doing for my long cycles. It came back slightly elevated (I want to say 24 or 26 where the lab wanted 20, or something like that). I was retested and it came back normal. If not, I was supposed to be referred to an RE for further testing and to investigate a possible tumor.

The little research that I did indicated that levels can fluctuate dramatically based on stress, exercise etc., and that a tumor typically would give very high levels. I also understand that the tumors are typically very easily treated.

I was diagnosed with a tumor 7 years ago. My initial symptom was galactorrhea. My tumor is very small and I don't remember what my prolactin levels were back then (sorry!). I was on the medicine cabergoline for years and it maintained the tumor. I have MRIs every 1-2 years. This winter I switched to bromocriptine because it is safe while TTC. They did an MRI after I had been on bromocriptine for a month or so and my tumor had grown from 4 mm to 5 mm so they increased my dose of bromocriptine. At the same time my prolactin levels were 29, which is at the top of normal for non-pregnant women. If I am not pregnant before then, they are going to test my prolactin again in late June. Hopefully they have gone down since being on the higher dose of the bromocriptine. I don't know if this has affected fertility since I'm only on my 2nd cycle TTC.

If you are in the middle of an IVF cycle, I'm not sure that there would be anything you could do right now. I guess following your doctor's plan sounds best. FX for a successful IVF!!

@raintreebee: what ended up happening for you?

I just got a call from my REs office (I'm about 2 weeks out from a new IVF cycle) that both TSH and Prolactin are elevated. My prolactin is 33, not sure where that falls on the scale.
I'm going in again tomorrow after a fast to test again. If it's still elevated he'll call me with next steps.
They actually called first about TSH and to get me on synthroid, and then a few mins later to say that prolactin also just came in and is elevated. TSH she was like "no big deal" but the prolactin she was a bit more vague about and hesitant to say much. She just told me not to google, so of course as soon as we hung up I googled.
I guess I'm just concerned because 3 years ago neither of these were an issue for me. Interested in hearing about others experiences.
