we have two dogs, and they have adjusted really well and i don't feel like they've been neglected!

if i take a walk with LO, i bring the dogs also. it's a juggling act but i don't want to leave them!

we haven't closed off any areas to them, and they still sleep in bed with us. i try to let them do what they want as long as it's not hurting LO--so if we're holding LO and they want to come on our laps, we make room for them. when i nurse LO in the nursing chair, the dogs sometimes want to come up so i pick them up and we all pile in together. while LO is in tummy time, the dogs sometimes sniff and sit near him, which is fine unless they're trying to sit on top of him.

you may find that your dog will just want to continue to be wherever you are, whether it's with LO or not. our dogs basically follow me wherever i am with LO, whether it's to the nursery, or during bathtime, tummy time, etc.

admittedly, things may change as LO (who is 3 months old) gets older and requires more attention. but i hope we all grow together as a family!

My pup is the same way - super, super attached to me and I was really worried about him. I also doubted he could be jealous, but you never know! When LO came he adjusted surprisingly well. He still always wants to be near me, but is fine not sitting on my lap or anything. My DH and I take turns giving him attention, and we chose to not change any of his pre-baby routines (i.e. sleeping with us on the bed, allowed on the couch, etc.). I know some others may disagree, but for us we thought he had enough changing coming and we didn't want to add to it. Also, he's been around children before so we were pretty sure he would be ok. However, we did supervise him closely those first few weeks and never left them alone together. And he did great! I think he's confused, yet intrigued by LO. She doesn't do much yet though, so I'm sure their interaction will grow as she gets older and more mobile. I hope they'll be BFF in the future

We do the same as @edelweiss basically. We were pretty worried because our dog was definitely the baby before. One thing we do is every time we change LO or take her into the nursery we call the dog in and say 'we need your help with LO!' He gets all excited and comes with us. The only time he gets a little upset is when my husband and I are both looking at the baby on the changing table where the dog can't see. One of us just picks him up so he can get a look. He's definitely become very attached and protective. It's really sweet!

I'm not pregnant, and I already think about this! Our dog gets so much attention.

I think if we have a baby, I'd like to take a class with our dog once things are settled. That way I know one hour a week, she's getting my attention. I love taking classes with my dogs, and it would be good for me to get out of the house as well.
