We are going through this and I have found that showing her appropriate actions helps. If she's mad because someone is mean to her, I'll say we do not hit, we say "be nice to me" and rub arms or something. She even hits objects and I've nipped that by the same technique.

If she's mad because she's just a toddler and throwing a tantrum I usually have to try to calm her down and then talk calmly to her and tell her she hurt me and made me very sad. She usually gets it, but it hasn't completely stopped the bad behavior. It's tough!

I've tried everything, it's usually when I tell her "no" that she gets "the look" and she hits me. I started to say "that hurts mommy" "we dont' hit" "we use our hands for waving not hitting" but it didn't work so I did automatic timeout in her room. This worked for us (for the most part) & she's slowed down on her hitting. This is also the approach they do at daycare, she has to be separated and she hates that.

I've noticed she doesn't hit DH just me, so I don't know why I get the brunt of it! She has kicked him, and he does the same approach. I do my best to stay calm, but haha it's not always easy.

LO is 19 months- and we are in the middle of a huge hitting spree. He hits me, daycare teacher, kids at daycare. Its bad, and I feel like a jerk because I have the kid that hits everyone.... We have been saying "no hitting" "we don't hit" all those things... but nothing has helped!
