The holiday season is quickly approaching!! What ideas do you have so far for your toddler/preschooler?
DS's birthday is 3 days after Christmas and I'm at a loss as to what to get him!

A friend of us is giving us a brand-new Strider balance bike that their kids never used. So that'll be his "big" gift, which is usually his Something He Wants. Something He Needs will be more of Hubs' He-Man action figures, because according to Hubs, the 25 he currently has aren't enough. Something to Wear will be an apron, because he likes to help me in the kitchen. And Something to Read will be books, obviously.

Well, I am not the greatest at gift buying/giving, so I don't have many great ideas!
We are probably getting L some of the star wars or spider man Playskool figures...
I have no idea if he'll enjoy them, but he LOVES spider man and star wars so, it's something. lol.

My girls have November and December birthdays, so we're brainstorming ideas for both as well! DD will be 3 like your LO, and since we bought a house with a yard since last Christmas, I am planning on a few outside toys. We're thinking a t-ball set and a scooter or a balance bike? I also like the idea of a playhouse for them to share. We've got a couple of board games, books and a new tea set on her list too. I'd like to get her some magnatiles, but I'm wary of spending the money when I don't know if she'll love them. Her only wish for Santa is a magnifying glass, so that's a definite!
I'm struggling with what to do for my 1 year old, since we have so much from her sister for her to use. We're getting her a convertible car seat and I'm making her a growth chart for her room. Maybe a new push toy and Little People set? A play tent for her room? I have to think more...
@littlebug: What an awesome deal!

@rattles: Not even kidding, I think it's partially as a mea culpa for their kids' WRETCHED behavior the last time they were at our house. But, yeah, major score.

So far we've gotten E magnetic tiles (I think Picasso?) from "baby sister", who is due on Christmas Eve. And that's it so far, although I'm considering a play kitchen as his big gift this year, but haven't decided yet. Other than that some new Matchbox cars and trains for his stocking.

We went to a 3 year old's birthday over the weekend and one amazing gift they got was an ikea under try bed box filled with different dress up materials! She loved it. Dresses, tutus, fire fighter outfit, super hero cape, necklace, magic wand, etc.

No clue. They'll be 3yr 8m and 16m. I know I'm definitely getting the DT figurine set as a stocking stuffer for the older one. Probably a Highlights subscription?
I like the idea of something want, need, wear, read!

I think we are going to get her a dollhouse. Not sure how much she will play with it right away but hopefully it will grow with her over the next year. We got a MagicClip set at Costco. Then will do a couple other small things.
Any ideas I get I am giving to family so we don't end up with a bunch of crap she doesn't need.

@Mrs. Goose: that was my older ones big Christmas gift last year! We found a kids dresser on Craigslist and filled it! She still loves it.

I think we're going to get a play kitchen for B - he liked helping cook at daycare one day when they made banana bread, and I'd like to get him interested in the kitchen so when he's a bit bigger he'll want to be involved.

@lovehoneybee: @erinbaderin: We're considering a play kitchen as well. Especially now that #2 is on the way, I know it'll get used!!

I try to do Need, Want, Wear and Read each year for my DD.
For DD - Need: probably winter gear/boots Want: Kindle Kids (her 1 big gift) Wear: maybe some fun frozen jammies and a shirt or two Read: a bunch of flap books from usborne
For nephew: Need: will let my sister tell me what he needs Want: Miles space ship from Tomy Wear: Jammies - for Christmas Eve Read: its not totally a read but its a learn how to draw book and then a book all about bugs
For Niece: Need: will let my sister tell me Want: thinking a disney animators doll Wear: frozen jammies for Christmas eve Read: FarmYard Tales book from Usborn
Other Kids: I like to do books or activity books. I also stalk the Target $1 spot for fun add ons!

We have a birthday coming up before the Holidays too. We're getting our soon to be 2 year old a Strider balance bike, some Matchbox like cars, a Curious George memory matching game and some clothes/books. Not sure what will be Birthday gifts and what will be Christmas gifts yet.
Our 6 month old is the hard one since he gets a lot of hand me down clothes and toys from his older brother.
I did just order both of them this "Lost My Name" book https://www.lostmy.name/en-US. I think it's cuter than a lot of the personalized name books I've seen. I don't think I can post it here but i have a referral code for 15% off if anyone is interested! We try to do the Want, Need, Wear, Read so at least I've got 'read' covered for both of them!

My son's behaviour right now is that he's not getting anything for Christmas or his December birthday, but we're seriously considering just getting one thing, one of those motorized ride on cars.

I'm struggling with Christmas, DD1 is banking at her birthday next week (we got her a tablet, my parents got her a swing set, and in laws got her a bike....seriously ridiculous but we all got great deals on the stuff) so I don't feel like she needs anything huge for Christmas. She keeps telling me she's asking Santa for a TV for her room...not going to happen for a 3 year old. I was thinking of getting her and her sister matching chairs from Santa & then just small gifts from us; movies, art supplies, ect. She told me she wants a trampoline, but we don't have a fenced in back yard and this scares me with neighborhood kids, so I think that needs to hold off until we move.
DD2 will only be 8 months old, so she will probably get clothes...because she won't know any different

@petunia354: R got a kitchen last year and it still is her favorite toy.

I think we are going to get magna tiles this year and that will be the only toy from us. We got him a kitchen for his 2nd Christmas and he still loves playing with it so we might get him something to go with it or ask the grandparents if they want to.

does he have a scooter? my almost three year LOVES his micro mini.
cars/trucks are always a hit.
those wooden cake/pizza sets from Melissa & Doug have been a huge hit here too - weirdly. he loves constructing them!

@hellobeeboston: He doesn't have a scooter but that's a great idea as well! He'd have a blast with that. Cars/trucks are always on his list, lol He loves his big Bruder dump truck & garbage truck so we might add to his collection.

We're spending Christmas with our inlaws and my family always goes overboard when it comes to gifts, so I'll probably just get the kids a pair of matching PJs to wear. There's really nothing they need/want.
DS' birthday is in December too and he's getting a bike.

Thinking about a sled? Not sure this year... I've gotta think about birthday as well since his birthday is a month after Christmas.

Oh gosh, DH and I always have a hard time not going overboard with gifts...we really need to reign it in but I guess we both love giving gifts.
For DD1 we have a Lego set that we got on sale this summer, the MagiClips from Costco, and dress-up clothes...but what she really really wants is an American Girl doll (and she'll be nearly 5 in December but that still seems young for such an expensive doll?). So, we may not end up giving her everything because we also have family that love to buy her things.
For DD2...we have a book. Hah! I don't know what we will get her; it was just her birthday two weeks ago.

I think we are doing a learning tower/kitchen helper for Christmas. For her birthday we got her a play kitchen and it's a big hit. Next year when she's a bit bigger I think we will do a stride bike.

@petunia354: my DS's birthday is the day after your DS's so I have also been brainstorming already! For his birthday, I think we are just giving him his first friends birthday party this year. For the holidays, we might get him a Lego train set since he is obsessed with both Legos and trains. But we will likely just get him one or two gifts since he gets so much from family.
No clue for DD who turns 2 right before the holidays.

@petunia354: that's my son's birthday too! He will be one. I am thinking one present for Xmas one for his birthday. I want to start a reasonable precedent where we don't go overboard

Maybe a dollhouse as a group gift for Christmas. Not sure about LO 1's bday which is right after Xmas...books?!
