It looks like H has a yeast rash. She was on augmentin for an ear infection for ten days and came home with a horrible yeast rash yesterday. I called the ped but they didn't call anything in. She's not uncomfortable, it's just super red and irritated and butt paste/triple paste is doing nothing.
What are some home remedies for yeast rash? I'm doing coconut oil, but is there anything else I can do?

You can buy clotrimazole 1% over the counter. Also, not sure how old your LO is, but yogurt or probiotics can help.

I was going to suggest clotrimazole too. Coconut oil did the trick for us, but I had used prescription nystatin first. Maybe hydrocortisone for any inflammation/itching/redness? But that wouldn't treat a yeast rash.

Air dry, coconut oil + Desitin rapid relief. No wipes, instead dab with warm washcloth rinsed in warm water + baking soda. Same for bath. The baking soda helps neutralize the acidity of diarrhea (if that's why).

@sapphire: She's two. We asked the pharmacist but she didn't recommend it because she's newly two (almost 26 months). I'm planning on calling the on call doctor tomorrow.

Equal parts zinc oxide and lotrimin mixed with maalox to thin it out. Works like a charm!

@regberadaisy: No diarrhea. She had a couple of days of loose stools, but this redness is all around her ladybits and not at all around her bum.

The only thing that gets rid of DD's yeast rashes is clotrimazole (aka Lotramin athlete's foot cream -- we get the store brand).

Yep. It's safe to use on infants - do a thin layer then cover with a thick layer of triple paste.

@avivoca: I'm a pharmacist and I've used on my lo much younger then 2! But I would never recommend it at work because of how it's labeled - liability and all that

Lotrimin will clear it right up.
@MrsSRS: @avivoca: you actually should not use triple paste for yeast rash! The corn starch in triple paste feeds the yeast.

I don't know how you feel about this but my best friend swears by rubbing yogurt on herself when she has a yeast infection. She even dips tampons in them! Might be something easy enough to spread on a diaper...

Rashes can be tricky so I would call your ped tomorrow and have her seen to be sure it's a yeast infection. Oftentimes you'll know it's yeast because it's bright red, has sharp borders, and isn't responding to normal creams/treatments for 3 days or more. Yeast infections are something I would medicate and not rely solely on home remedies to treat. You'll want to get an OTV anti-fungal like Lotrimin and apply it to the area 3 times per day (apply until is is resolved or it will likely come back). Leaving her open to air as often as possible will also help a TON. I hope she's better soon!

I'm surprised your ped wouldn't call anything in. LO has had a yeast rash twice and both times the only thing that worked was nystatin (which we needed a prescription for).

Mine had me mix equal parts of clotramizole, lotrimine and the red dr. Beauxdreau butt paste that has zinc oxide. I kept it in an airtight container and applied every diaper change. It cleared up fast.

My sons have had yeast diaper rashes before and needed nystatin to clear them up. I'm surprised your ped didn't prescribe anything.

@avivoca: I'll second the other people that her age should not be a problem. We used athletes foot cream on DD for a yeast rash caused by my mastitis antibiotics when she was just a few weeks old (at the pediatrician's recommendation).
