I can't speak from expirence since baby one is due in March but I have a couple things I am going to be sure to bring...
A box or two of nice chocolates from Sees for the nurses, they last for 3ish months so I'm going to pick them up soon.
I got this for after baby is born so I look presentable for visitors and there is easy access for checks and feeding. Plus it's black, so it won't stain and if it does I can toss it (I'm usually a size small, have been buying mediums during pregnancy, but opted for a large in this) http://mobile.kohls.com/product/prd-1859347/simply-vera-vera-wang-pajamas-sheer-touch-sleep-shirt-womens-extended-size.jsp?pCode=1859347
Also I'm going to pin a list to my bag that M can easily run around and grab items that I will need but won't pack until last minute. Like my cell phone, iPad, charger, cosmetics case, eye glasses, DSLR etc.

I really liked having my nursing pillow in the hospital. And slippers.

Face wipes. I couldn't get out of bed the first day and it was so nice to still be able to "wash" my face.

other than the obvious like phone charger and toothbrush-- I'm really glad I took my own nightgowns and some makeup. I showered and got dressed in my own gown and put on mascara the day after my c-section and I felt SO MUCH better afterwards. Like if you have your own stuff you can't really be in bad shape
Also pillows and blanket for DH. I was fine with hospital pillows and blanket but the ones they gave dh sucked.

Nursing pillow definitely. I couldn't position T without it.
I hardly used anything I packed. I wore hospital gowns the whole time. It was just easiest. I loved having my warm fuzzy non slip socks though.

I agree with all of these! I most needed my own pillow. This time I may bring more than one. The one thing I want to figure out before the twins get here is how to buy some movies on my kindle. There's nothing on tv at 2am and you barely sleep at night while you're in there.

An extension cord! The plug was far away from the bed I was in!

@matador84: Good to know! I need you to give me other hospital specific tips.

I brought flip flops for the shower. Don't want my feet touching the gross showers haha. Also a small lamp/night light is handy so you don't need to turn on the huge overhead lights during the night while feeding. A few snacks, nice body wash, my own pillow..

It depends a lot on what the hospital will provide. Mine gave me tons of stuff so I really just needed phone charger, snacks for DH and he did use extra pillow we brought.
