I might have a dumb question here….but let me start off by saying I am deathly afraid of needles. As dumb and petty as it may sound, I will literally pass out of I need to get blood drawn. True story, I needed an MRI done because I was getting a lot of headaches, and my Dr requested that it would be done with and without contrast, so obviously I needed an IV. Well I told the nurse that I needed to be laying down because I knew I was going to pass out. She said I would be fine. Next thing I knew, I woke up laying on the floor! But yea…..I’m seriously afraid of them.

Now to the real question…..so for those of you that gave birth in a hospital….do they put an IV in you immediately? Why do you need an IV? Do you know if there is any way to get around this?

I have nothing against home births (my best friend just had one and it was perfect for her!) but it just isn’t something for DH and I. So if anyone has any insight with the whole “IV” thing….that would be awesome!
