Just for fun! How big was your baby when he/she was born??
Also, if your doctors estimated how big they were going to be prior to being born, were they right? Did they guess over? Under?

They guessed around 7lbs, give or take a few ounces. He was 8lbs 12oz.

6lbs, 14ozs
ETA: The u/s tech estimated 7lbs 11ozs at 38.5 weeks (when I was induced). BabyGloss was just long.

8 lbs 1 ounce and 21.5 inches! My Dr never shared any estimates with me.

They guessed she would be over 9lbs for sure. At 36 weeks she was measuring 8lbs 13 ounces (via ultrasound).
She was born 9lbs 7 ounces.

Doctors never estimated a weight but they kept saying things like he was measuring small (just like they're saying with this baby). Henry turned out to be 7lbs, 13 ozs and very healthy even at four days before his due date.

@Thehistoryofus: Oh my gosh, I'm scared! I just had an ultrasound yesterday and they said the baby was already 9 lbs 1 oz! I still have two more weeks until my EDD! I hope he's not much bigger! Although it sounds like your baby gained less than a lb in 4 weeks (or so), so hopefully mine won't be much bigger than 9 lbs when he's due.

@MsLipGloss: Oooh, this is helpful! Maybe my baby will just be tall and not huge like the u/s tech thinks! I'm scared of trying to push a 9+ lb baby out!

7lbs 11oz and 21 inches. He was estimated to be between 7 and 7.5lbs so pretty much right on.

6 pounds exactly (and short: 17.5 inches!). They estimated her around 7. I had her at 39 weeks, 3 days before my scheduled c-section, but they still would have been off.
wonderful clementine / 24134 posts
@Adira: I pushed her out! But I was induced at 39W6D because I was scared of going any longer and letting her get bigger. It was induction or c-section.

She was 6lb12oz and 19" long. She was born at 37w4d but I didn't get any estimates.

She was 6lbs 9oz, the Doctor said she would be surprised if she was anymore than 7/7.5 pounds.

@Thehistoryofus: Did you get an epidural or anything? I'm scared because I may not be allowed to get an epidural and pushing a 9+ lb baby out without one sounds scary! I have an appointment on Friday - I'm curious what they'll say about the size of my baby and delivery. I don't know if they are likely to want to induce earlier because of his size or not.

They told me at 33 weeks that she'd be between 9.5 and 10.5. She was born on her due date at 10lbs. 1oz. so the prediction was pretty accurate.

@oliviaoblivia: *cries* 10 lbs is a big baby!!! Although is it true that big babies sleep through the night quicker/easier?
pineapple / 12793 posts
@Adira: Despite having a huge estimate my doc was willing to let me go past 40 weeks. I ended up inducing around the EDD due to blood pressure. And then having a c-section because she was too big. It wasn't all that bad.
Oh and my mom delivered me vaginally with no meds and I was 9lbs.9oz.
It's doable.

@Adira: She's six weeks now and we're getting 6-7 hour stretches at night. I think her birth weight has definitely helped in that department.

@oliviaoblivia: Thanks so much for the info! I definitely know that it's possible to push out a big baby, but I am nervous about it. My mom had 7-8 lb babies, but my grandmother had a 10 lb baby once, so I know it's doable. I think if I can get an epidural, I'll be okay (or at least, I hope I will be - I have wide hips to begin with, so I'm hoping that helps), but if I can't get an epidural, I'm not sure I'll be able to push out a giant baby, haha.

@mediagirl: I didn't realize our LO's were the same weight.
My girl was 7 lbs 3 oz. At 36 weeks they guessed her at 6 lbs and said that if we went to 39, she'd probably be 7 1/2. She was born at 39 w 1 d. They were pretty close.

She was 8 lb 5 oz when I gave birth at 40 weeks, 4 days. They said at 40 weeks she would be in the mid to upper 8's. I'm really glad they were wrong as she would have been almost 9 lb when I gave birth if they were right.
My SIL was told around 7.5 lb for my nephew. When he was born, he was 8 lb 10 oz and was 2 weeks early. So it goes both ways!
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
5 lbs 5 oz and only 17.5 inches. He was a peanut (and I delivered only 10 days early)! My doctor knew he'd be small, but we didn't know he'd be THAT small.
At 9 months, he's 16 lbs and 27 inches.
pineapple / 12526 posts
10lbs 8oz and 22" long. Midwife estimated her between 9 and 10, so not too far off.

6 pounds, 13 ounces...I had GD and everyone insisted I was going to have a huge baby. He showed them!

7 lbs 6 oz. In my final prenatal appointments, I asked my doc how big she though that LO would be at delivery. She guessed around 6-7 lbs. She was pretty close!

5 lbs 2 oz, 18.5 inches long. They estimated her o be 5lbs 3 oz at my appt earlier that day, so pretty darn accurate!

8 lbs 9 oz. I actually had an U/S the morning I went into labor, and it estimated 8 lbs 10 oz. So it was right on the money.

7lbs 12 oz. She was about where my dr and I thought she would be.

@Adira: for the record, I'm 5'2, petite frame. I birthed my baby vaginally with no meds. A lot of doctors are scared of big babies being born vaginally because it takes longer, but it's definitely doable! Having a supportive team is essential.

@hilsy85: Our LO's were born almost exactly the same size!
I was never given any estimates. At exactly 14 days 'early' he was 7 lbs 11 oz, 21.25 inches. Glad he didn't cook any longer
