Gross. I'm a teacher and it disturbs me so badly. When I was in school: 1) my 8th grade math teacher was fired for allegations regarding a group of girls, 2) the year I graduated, a sophomore married the 40 year old track coach at our high school (her parents signed for it and he resigned the morning they got married...it was all over the national news...ugh.) And 3) a janitor at the high school had "sexual relations" with a mentally disabled student.
So so sad.

Stories like this are completely horrible and disgusting, but think of how many tens of thousands of teachers there are. Freaks like this could be anywhere, and have been around children since the beginning of time. We just hear about it more now thanks to 24/7 worldwide media coverage so it seems like crimes like this are increasing.

So gross! It makes me so sad when one bad teacher ruins it for so many fantastic teachers.

Disgusting in every way.
As a teacher I don't appreciate being lumped in the same group as an obvious sicko wackjob. Like his behaviour somehow reflects on me. Not a fan of sweeping generalisations.

Terrible. I'm a teacher, too, and it's just awful when my profession is tainted because of sick jerks.

Well these are freak cases (I hope) but it can happen anywhere. I definitely won't home school so I'll just have to trust the teachers and send my LO to a reputable school.

I don't even think homeschooling is the complete answer in this case, because a lot of the times kids go to cooperative activities and there can be sick people at places like the Y, children's museums, etc. Schools aren't the only places where kids get vicitmized.

I agree that this incident is absolutely horrific, but this man is certainly in a tiny, tiny minority. Teachers have such a demanding job and they're up against so much these days that I would hate to think the profession as a whole is getting judged by this one extreme case.
