DD's middle name is the same as mine but it was also the name of my deceased daddy. The last part of her first name is a nod to my mum's middle name. DS is named after DH and his grandpa.

I have two girl names in mind, and one would also include a form of Mary (my mom is another form of Mary and says she didn't name me after her, but it worked out that way). The other is a dear dear great aunt who was sort of a matriarch of our family and a bonus grandmother. No one has been named after her, and my sister and cousin insist I was her favorite, so I'd love to honor her.

ETA: The first name I like to go with the variation of Mary happens to be DH's grandmother's name. I picked it first because I liked it, then got more attached since that name choice would be a good way to include both families.

And if we have a boy it will be a III, so there's no way around family names (that's why I get so much of a say for a girl!)

I thought I'd like to include my father's(and grandfather's) name or my other grandfather's name as a middle name so our son would have his own name, then something from each family. My husband didn't feel strongly one way or the other so he was fine with it. I would like to give a girl my middle name which is also a family name but I won't push as hard since he didn't object to my choosing the first child's name!

DD1: middle name is a tradition, it was my grandmother's maiden name (my sweet & dear to my heart great grandmother's last name) we always knew we would use it.

DD2: We decided to go with my DH's brother who passed away when they were kids regardless of gender for middle name, so it was always about finding a first name that was girly enough/worked with such a masculine middle name.

We were team green, so we decided if we had a boy, his middle name would be dh's name which is also dh's grandfathers name. If we had a girl we would carry on a tradition on my side of the family where the eldest daughter has Elizabeth as the middle name.

DD1 shares her middle name with FIL. It's his mothers maiden name. It went best with the first name we chose and we felt that since he's 90 that of our potential children it was important that we use a name from his side first so they can at least meet.

DD2 shares her middle name with mom and my grandmother. My mom is the second born daughter and was very vocal about equality during my pregnancy. My mom is the most incredible human being so it's a big deal to me that we gave her name to DD2. I think it'll foster an extra special bond.

Not sure what we'll decide for #3. I cannot imagine using a name from MIL's side because of my negative feelings for her.

D's middle name is my dad's name. It also happens to be BIL's name, but it was chosen for my dad. For this one, we'll use a name from Hubs's family.

We used my mom's maiden name, Jefferson, as our son's middle name. Her only brother passed away at a few days old so there was no one to carry on the "family name;" when my grandfather found out he was so thrilled saying "the Jefferson name will live on."

My great-grandmother was incredibly beloved by my entire family. I already had her name as a middle name, so it was logical to pass it on.

As it happens, it spiked in popularity the year LO was born, such is life.

My FIL died shortly after we got married, so it was kind of an obvious choice to name a boy after him.

We ended up using his middle name as LO's middle name. It was FIL's father's name and DH's middle name as well.

My middle name was my mother's middle name a ND my grandmother's first name as well, so if we have a girl in the future we will likely use that as a middle name.

DS1 shares a middle name with DH. It was DH's idea and I was ok with it. It's not my favorite name but that's ok.

For DS2, we looked to family names for inspiration. His 1st name was my maternal grandfather's name. His middle name is my father-in-law's middle name. They were the two names I liked and important men in our families.

DD1's middle name is my mom's maiden name and DD2's middle name will be MIL's maiden name!

I wanted to honor my mom and grandmothers so M's middle name is a shortened version of both my mom and paternal grandmother's name as well as version of my maternal grandmother's mother. I felt it encompassed everyone in a way.

D's middle name, his dad's middle name, and his paternal grandmother's maiden name is Evans, so we would have been using it regardless, but we chose to make it a first name. Charles is my MIL's maiden name, and was my choice to honor her side of the family.

LO2 will be Grace, which is D's much beloved paternal grandmother. It was non-negotiable for D. Middle is yet undecided, but probably won't honor anyone because I want it to start with an E and the only E name on either side is Evans.

Using family names is tradition and really important to D's family, but not on my side. Plus there are no names there that I love enough to want to use, and no one I'm close enough to to want to honor.

DDs middle name was non-negotiable. It's in honour of my sister. She has special needs, and will never be able to have a child (despite wishing she could!). She's been my inspiration for just about everything I've done in my life, and so I wanted to be sure she was honoured in a special way. She was so excited when we told her the name. It was so special.

Babe's middle name is my mom's name. No one in the family had been named after her and her name flowed well with the first name we chose.

We went off of both names we liked and our relationships with those people. We named both girls after DH's grandma and great grandma. We liked the names and he had fond memories of spending summers with them. Middle names were from my family. My grandma whose name I LOVE (she passed in 2000) and my middle name which is my moms first name- starting the tradition of using it as a middle name. We had some names (DH's mom and maternal grandma) that I liked but due to relationships with them, would never use. I also have beloved relatives (my grandma Delores) who I wouldn't use due to connotations with the name (Seinfeld episode....)

My daughter's middle name is after my cousin who died when we were 15. I didn't do it to honour her, per se, but I knew that LO would want to know why that is her middle name. It's a way of making my cousin important to my LO, even though she's been dead so long that most of my younger cousins don't remember her at all.

We decided that we are going to use our Mom's maiden names! So for a boy it will be my Mom's maiden name as the first name and for a girl it will be my Mother-in-law's maiden name (she passed 5 years ago) as the first name! They are both unique names but we are both closer with our Moms side of the families that we thought it'd be nice to honor them! We are ttc and I'm happy with both names so I can't wait to e
be able to use one them!

I didn't want to name her after someone still living (I'm not Jewish just prefer naming after deceased relatives). She was already getting DH's last name so I thought it was fair that her middle name be from my side. We ended up giving her the feminine version of my maternal grandfather's name as a middle name. Her first name isn't a family name from either side.
