So, DH and I are talking about names for baby #2 and he really likes the name Merida, which is the Disney princess from Brave. So, question, would you name your LO after a Disney princess? I really don't feel like it's a big deal but DH isn't sure about it, eventhough he is the one that brought up that name.

I think that one is uncommon enough that it would be ok.
I knew a girl named Ariel and it was never a big deal.

I don't think it's a big deal, that's why I was curious if anyone else thought it was because DH seemed a little worried about it.

I like Merida. If your chances of having a redhead baby are high though, I'd avoid it.
My parents almost named me Ariel and I'm so glad they didn't, since I have long red hair and would have gotten endless "Little Mermaid" teasing.
Otherwise? Go for it!

I'm actually love Disney and wouldn't mind if my lo had the same name as a princess. I dont think I'd pick her name because it's a Disney princess, but if it happens to be one I think that would be fine .

I don't think that it is a big deal. I haven't even seen Brave yet, so I would have no idea that is where it came from.

the top name on our 'girls name' list is a disney princess! It's not one of the above mentioned ones and no, it's not cinderella.
I think the name is beautiful, I say go for it!

I would. I love the name Aurora.
A good friend wanted to name her daughter Cinderella. Thank GOD her husband put his foot down. She ended up naming her Belle. lol

I think Merida is a great name, and the fact that she's a Disney Princess wouldn't dissuade me.
I definitely wouldn't use like, Cinderella or Snow White, but some of the other Disney Princess names would be okay (like Aurora or Tiana, and definitely Merida).

Disney princesses especially the newer ones kick butt, so yes Merida is great. I know plenty of Ariels and Jasmines abd do not necessarily associate them with their animated namesakes.

Merida is a pretty name! I think you guys can totally pull it off. When I first saw the title of this thread I was hoping you wouldn't say something like Mulan or Cinderella =P

Aurora was on my top 5 list of names. Although my husband dislikes it because he has a crazy old aunt named aurora.

Ive been trying to talk DH into letting us name any future girl Aurora (shortened to Rory if we want) so I think it's perfectly acceptable!

I personally wouldnt but someof the princess names are nice and are real names i know a few Jasmines and Yasmins in real life

My 2 year old niece is Aurora and I never think of the Disney Princess when I hear that name.

I have a 20 year old cousin named Jasmine and a friend named Ariel. Never really thought anything of it in association to the movies. I also know of a little girl name Aurora and I love it they call her Rory.

I think Merida is fine! Not so much if it was Mulan, Cinderella, Rapunzel, or Sleeping Beauty though. haha!

There are quite a few of the princess names that aren't strong enough associations to be safe

Hell to the no. Not in a million years.
I'm not sure that Merida counts as a disney princess, though. It's a pixar film, first, and it so breaks the disney mold that I personally wouldn't even think about it. Merida is awesome - I'm saving that movie for when my girl is old enough to be inspired by it.

I think you should go for it - it's definitely a beautiful name. Like others, I know of several girls with the same names as Disney princesses, and don't think of Disney when I think of their name.

I like the name Merida! But I do associate it with Disney because I have a 5 year old
We were just reading a Merida book together last night. I still think it's a pretty name though.
