How did you decide who to name a baby after?

Thinking about naming DD after my mom. At first I felt bad, thinking what will MIL think etc... but, since this is #2 and MIL has shown she doesn't really want to be an active role in ours and DS/DD's life, while my mom plays a HUGE role, I don't feel bad anymore.

My mom's first name is also my middle name, so it would kind of be a cool thing to be carried on.

DD1: chose Julia just because we liked it, but I did also have a grandfather named Julius. Chose Catherine as the middle in honor of my mom, Catherine.

DD2: Chose Holly in memory of one of my best friends who died after a long battle with cancer when I was pregnant with DD1. Holly would have been more appropriate for DD1 who was born in December (vs DD2 born in May), but it felt too soon and I didn't feel comfortable using the name at that point. DD2's middle is Louise, which is my MIL's middle. It flowed better than her first and also, gave baby more of her own name than if we'd used MIL's first, since with the last name being the same, it read like, "Holly MIL's full name". I love that my girls' names honor their grandmothers.

There was a hypothetical name your baby girl *now* thread and I chose a name honoring both my mom and MIL. It was a variation of my mom's name that I've always loved and MIL's name seemed to go well as a middle name.

However, I was completely against naming a baby after anyone with DD and if we were to have another baby, I think I'd go against it. If we magically had a baby when that old thread was written, I would have regretted her name!

We knew L's first name before we even got pregnant, but we debated the middle name. We could have gone with my (deceased) grandmother's middle name, DH's middle name (which is a family name shared by a lot of his family members), or one that we just liked (technically it would have been naming her after a character from a show). The main factor wound up being which we liked the sound of most, with who it was more important to being a close second. Since we aren't having another and will never have a boy, DH knew he wouldn't be able to pass on the middle name to the oldest son, as is tradition in his family. And it meant a lot to him to give it to her. Since the name from my family is a little more popular than I'd like, and we weren't totally in love with the other, it just made the most sense to go with DH's.

We are currently TTCing number one. If we have a boy he will be Kenneth William. Kenneth is both our maternal grandfathers name. William is DH's and his fathers middle name. Girl we plan on using my mother or his mothers name as a middle name. Ruth or Vivienne.

DD's middle name was easy because it's a name I love and it also happens to be my MIL and my mother's first name

This one is a little harder. We are TG - if it's
A boy, it will get my maiden name as a first name - if it's a girl I have no idea who we will name her middle name after!! I like the idea of some sort of family connection

We named DD after our grandmothers. Her first name is DH's paternal grandmother's name and her middle name is after my paternal geandmother's first name (also my sister's name). Both namesakes are deceased. I never met my grandmother and DH'a died shortly after our wedding.

We are considering giving this LO my mom's first name as her middle. The first name will be one we just like though.

We named ds after his great grandfather, mostly because we both really liked the name anyway so it was just an added bonus to honor my husband's grandfather as well.
If we ever have a girl, we will be using her great grandmothers' name as a middle name (which also happens to be my first name).

Juniors are very common in our family and our culture, since DH was a 3rd I couldn't NOT name DS after his Great grandpa, grandpa and DH. I love it. The name is totally unique and fits them all very well. DD has my middle name, only because I inherited the name from my mom. We're so creative over here haha
