We let them sit with only dish soap coating them(no water) for about an hour. Then we use SOS pads to scrub them clean again.

I soak in hot soapy water and just scrub with a wire pad. If it doesn't work and my hands are dying, I just toss it and buy a new pan

If it's a stainless pan, steel wool usually does the trick. The rule here is whoever wrecks it cleans it. DH has become a much more careful cook lately because of this!

Soak with Bon Ami! It is a miracle product! I don't think I've ever had anything that it didn't clean.

What kind of pans do you have? I use Barkeeper's Friend.

@Sugar.Biscuit: Their site says you should avoid using it on anodized aluminum pans but it looks like it'd be fine with your pans. Seriously, the stuff is amazing.

@Leialou: Does that work for stove tops too? My stove top has tons of burnt nasty things and nothing gets it clean!

@FutureMrsMcK: I found a sample pack of the bar keepers that I got at an expo some where. Right now it's soaking in vinegar & baking soda. It seems to be working a little, the soda mix is turning brown. If that doesn't work Ill be trying the bar keepers tomorrow!
@banana: these are expensive freaking pans that DH & I got talked into buying when we got married. One of those things where you come listen to our talk an you get a free 3 day 2 night vacation. The pans have been recalled (ha) so if we can't get it we will be shipping them off soon anyways. They can deal with it!

My mom swears by boiling Dawn Dish soap and water to get the burn off.

@banana: I am willing to bet it will work great on stovetops. I got rid of rust circles and red food dye stains on my SIL's countertop. This stuff is seriously magic.

I triple Bar Keeper's Friend! The powder version for burnt and scorched pans. The liquid version works wonders on my white glass electric stovetop. I recommend the stuff to everyone - AMAZING!

I also LOVE Bar Keeper's Friend. I prefer the powder version. The liquid version smells odd to me =/

Not sure if this will work on a pan, but I burnt a glass dish once baking chicken and what finally got it off (after soaking for like a week and scrubbing didn't work) was putting it in the freezer, taking it out, scrub, back in the freezer.. repeat.

I just boil water in them until the gunk loosens up. Then, my husband and I take turns at scraping it down.
