We move into our first home next week which has hardwood floors. In our current apartment I've been using good old Mr Clean and water on our laminate flooring. My mom told me you can't use water on hardwood flooring or it will ruin it....what the what? She uses a special spray to clean her hardwood, but she's a bit anal.
How do you clean your hardwood?

I bought an e. cloth mop and microfiber pad. I know you're not supposed to use steam on wood but light water is fine I think. I just wanted to avoid chemicals!

I used a steam mop until the hardwood guys redoing our floors said that's the worst! They recommend a special spray, probably something similar to what your mom uses.

I use Method Wood for Good wood floor cleaner. If you get it, make sure you get the kind for floors. It works well and my floors look amazing when I'm done.

@evansjamie: Oh awesome, thanks!! I have a Vileda spray mop system now that I love (quick and easy) and the thought of spraying and scrubbing on my hands and knees like my mom does made me ill. I see method has a spray system too - that will be perfect!

@sunny: Yep, but my bottle looks different from that one. I've had it forever though, a little bit in the water lasts a long time!

It's a process, first we sweep, then we swiffer, then we shark mop, then we use a pledge floor polish to shine it all up. I know steam isn't great for wood, but sometimes it's all that gets the dog slobber up.

@evansjamie: you are supposed to dilute it? I just bought some and tested it on a spot in a closet because I've heard that sometimes different cleaners are not compatible with different floors. But I didn't dilute mine!

@sunny: Okay, I guess I have the oil soap. They were out of the squirt and mop (which is what you have) last time I was at Target..
