Or do you? Did you just put them on their stomachs and wait for them to figure it out? DD is 8.5 months and WANTS to move but is nowhere near crawling.

DH put a mirror in front of her and she started army crawling towards it to see the "baby" we also put our hands behind her feet and she would push off and start moving that way

DS was obsessed with the remote. He would literally drop anything else he was playing with just to touch the remote lol so I would encourage him by putting it in front of him. He started scooting and army crawling..I would push the remote a little further away and little by little, he got to it! He face planted a couple of times but he got his remote!

DS was attracted to the iPad, so we'd put it on camera mode and eventually he wanted it badly enough that he crawled towards himself. It makes for pretty cute pictures too!

We held out handfulls of puffs. So basically we tried to bribe him with treats. *hangs head in shame... hahaha

@NurseMommy: lo loves my phone because I take pictures of her on it and then let her use her finger to swipe through them. So, last night I put my phone across from her and encouraged her and she crawled across the room!

I put toys just out of his reach, but the day he finally did it it was because his cousin that he adores was sitting a few feet away holding an iPad up for him.

We used puffs, bite-sized pieces of mum mums and his paci! I have a video of his first time crawling where he can't decide which one to go for! Haha
Does she rock on all fours? Can she transfer from sitting onto her tummy?

She wants so badly to run around with her sister (2.5) so I think that motivated her. Normally I just put her on her tummy so I can get some things done, she started army crawling a month ago and is now getting on all fours, she's still slow!

@Sammyfab: no rocking - she can't even get up on them. Bue yes, she has figured out how to get from sitting to stomach. She still hates being on her stomach though, so she usually just rolls over.

@NurseMommy: this sounds like exactly how my son was when he was learning to crawl . He HATED being on his tummy but he wouldn't even roll over. He would just lie on his stomach and flip his shit!
I would just continue to encourage her to move out of the sitting position by putting desirable objects just out of reach for now. My LO did quite well on all fours so I would just gently put my hands on the backs of his knees to move them forward so I was guiding his crawling. You could always put really fun toys that light up and play music in front of her when she's on her tummy to help her tolerate that position more?

DS didn't worm/army crawl until he was 9 months old.
We did tummy time and put toys in front of him.

@NurseMommy: I'm so glad you asked this! My LO is 6 months and is desperate to be mobile but she HATES being on her tummy. She lifts her arms and legs off the ground and tries to swim (cue face plant and angry screaming!).
I'm hoping daycare will be able to teach her - she starts in a week and a half - because I'm not succeeding!!

My 9 month old just rolls. I'll try some of these ideas .

This thread has some great ideas. I've been trying to encourage LO to crawl... but he just rolls back to his back and looks at me like I'm nuts.

My 9 month old has absolutely no interest in crawling. As soon he winds up on his stomach, he just rolls to his back. He's pulling himself up to standing (while hanging on to things) but could care less about crawling. I feel your pain!

Bribed with food, toys, the iPad, etc. I think the first time he crawled was in pursuit of an entire mango on a plate on the floor

@beaker: mmm, hell I'd crawl for some mango right now!
Seriously, though, my baby is 8 months old and hates tummy time, is nowhere near crawling. He loves sitting up, pulling himself up (with help of course), and when we ”walk” him, but no luck on the crawling front.
