We went to the library today and let Charlie choose half of the books he checked out. He chose books featuring characters from Spider-Man, the LEGO version of Star Wars, and also Jake & the Neverland Pirates. We chose a bunch of books about dinosaurs, since we took him to the natural history museum the other day and he's been into them ever since.

Not sure how I feel about these superhero/cartoon books. My main concern with them is that they are usually horribly written and the plots are often pretty confusing. Plus, I don't enjoy reading them. That's saying a lot, since I love comic books and superheroes!

But on the other hand, it's great that he's so into reading and we want to give him a sense of control over his reading material. So for now, I think we'll continue to do a 50/50 split where he picks some books and we pick the others. We'll see how it goes, and I'm also hoping that he gets into chapter books soon so that this is less of an issue.

How do you feel about children's books featuring superheroes or cartoon characters?
