I was upset today by an article I saw on MSNBC that was at the top of the website with the word "hell" in the title. I think it is highly inappropriate for news outlets to use curse words, no matter how mild they are, in their news stories. Is this really where we are headed? Into a culture where it is acceptable to curse on the news now?

For a long time curse words and lewd language were very much looked down on in publishing/media. Now they're putting f*ck in the titles of children's books...
Not exactly progress, I'd say.

Yeah, I'm pretty disturbed by it. Not that I"m a saint and never swear (I can curse like a sailor during a bad day at work), but right out there in the open where it's accessible by anyone just doesn't feel right to me.

I'm equally disturbed by it in the lyrics of a song, probably more so because a child can repeat song lyrics before they can read.

Cursing in general doesn't really bother me much. But when I see it in media my reaction is to think "were they not clever enough to come up with a good headline without having to swear?"

I hate curse words, I guess I'm old school, but they bother me all the time in general.

Depends on the word. I've never considered hell to be a swear, but if the f-bomb was in an article, I wouldn't be impressed.

@Minnie_Girl: That book was aimed at adults... there's a version aimed at kids that doesn't have any curse words!
