I have lost weight with WW online and South Beach. My major issue is that I do horribly with moderation. I don't know how to moderate--which is why the first 2 weeks of South Beach are good for me to get rid of cravings for sugar and carbs. I also exercised for 5 days a week for at least 30 minutes when I lost this weight. I need to get back to this!
@blackbird: I just spent my B&N credit buying that book. Haha. I'm a sucker for a good testimonial

80% of losing weight is related to your diet. It's hard to change, but worth it. I always find it takes me a good month for diet changes to become "habit". I do it through clean eating, portion control and exercise (both, cardio and weights).

I do what @blackbird: does, and its amazing!! Right now I'm cycling my carbs to bust through a plateau, and I follow a really strict clean eating program developed on Tom Venuto and Chris Powell's principles. I eat 40/40/20 protein, carbs, and fat (only real, whole foods) and I attend a military style bootcamp 4-6 days a week.

@mrsjazz, awesome!!! It's been revolutionary. I love the excel sheet from his website/
I also struggle with moderation. It's simply because the shit I like is addictive as hell. Candy, cookies, cakes. I have to go out of sight, out of mind to not eat it. There's a whole chapter in the book on goal setting that really helped me get around that, mentally. Hey, at least you know your weakness, ya know? That's half the battle.

Clean eating and exercise for me! I've lost almost 30 pounds since January 1st that way!

@running elly, damn that was fast! It's only been 12 weeks, LOL! Nice job

@blackbird: Lol I've been working HARD. And I definitely had the weight to lose. I was strict paleo and lost 15 in January. I haven't been as strict since but with my exercise and eating fairly clean it's still coming off. I have 7 pounds to go to get to pre-Elliot weight and I cannot wait.

Track and limit calories (love Myfitnesspal) and add in a couple days a week of cardio if I am really going for it.

Weight Watchers is the only thing that works for me. I mean, at it's core it's just consuming less calories and working out, but I really need to go to a meeting and get weighed in. Apparently I lack self-motivation I also then know I only have to "eat well" for a week and get weighed in... then I see I'm down a pound or so, and I need to refocus and make it through the next week. I hate paying for it, but I love the results.

I would say clean eating, but I have been eating ridiculously clean for the last four months and I still feel like fat lard, so I have no idea.

Cutting out all processed foods has done wonders for me. I feel better and lost about 10 lbs when I stopped buying canned and boxed foods.

In the past (when I was in my 20s) I could just eat healthy and do 30 minutes to an hour of cardio 3-4 times a week. As I get older my metabolism is just way slower and the weight does not come off or stay off as easily. What works super quick for me is to eliminate carbs almost entirely - I'll let myself have fruit and veggies but no pasta , rice, or bread. I'm tired of dieting though so I think I just need to commit to intense workouts at least 3x a week and eating healthy I love food so much though!

@Running Elley: omg! Way to go, mama!!! That's amazing!!
When I need to lose weight, I need apps to help me haha. This past summer, I used My Fitness Pal and Map My Run. I ate 2 meals grain free a day and allowed myself one meal with whole grains. I also tried to drink one green smoothie a day to keep me full. Lots of water. I ran every day and my weekly goal was 20-30 a week after I worked my way up to it. I also did the 30DS and a few other JM videos 4-5 days a week.

What worked for me is portion control. If I cut my portions to 60-80% of my normal gluttonous bowls, I've been able to lose a few pounds. I find that working out makes me hungrier

I lose a decent amount just by eating NOTHING after dinner! When I got pregnant I lost weight right away because I stopped my nightly couple glasses of wine!

Baby steps! For me, I have to take baby steps and also find something sustainable over time.
So, I make it simple: limit my calories.

the healthiest way i ever lost weight was by seeing a dietitian and following their plan to a T - which meant i measured and weighed out all my food so i didn't go over or under what i needed. It was a nice balance of protein, carbs, and fat. with the occasional indulgence. It took time, but for an entire year i was either losing or maintaining and I reached the weight i wanted to be for my wedding. Unfortunately, i went back to my old habits post-wedding and then got pregnant....so i need to start over.
And keeping a food journal helped immensely during that time. I wasn't using myfitnesspal - just writing it down in a word doc on my laptop. So it wasn't about counting calories, but just being aware of what i was eating all day.
ETA. i was also exercising a few times a week - nothing crazy and not always consistently - my dietitian had factored that into the plan she gave me. And until i moved, i was meeting with the dietitian every 3 weeks to review my progress and she would give me little tips and keep me accountable. it really worked!

So I have acquired an elliptical (thank you again creativemomma!) and have started trying to lessen my portion size, cut out snacking (especially at night), upping my water intake and cutting out carbs. The last one was going well until we went out for Indian with my ILs yesterday and they put a big plate of freshly made garlic naan right in front of me...

Lots of varied exercise (do something every day, doesnt matter what) and low calorie. I lost a ton of wright just eating less ad working out as much as ppssible, but didnt cut out any food groups or types of food.
