How do you feel about those ppl that think life, in general, is one big competition? You know the type ... when you talk about being excited about an upcoming baby milestone, they brag about various milestones their LO did early. They're always quick to point out they're more creative, a better cook, a better dresser, etc, etc, etc.

I have a friend who has loads of money and only ever buys designer clothes, furniture etc. She is always telling me how lucky I am that I can shop in Ikea because, well, she just can't bring herself to do it. Whenever she buys something for her house or a new handbag etc, she always posts pictures on Facebook - and she never posts a photo she's taken, no, she posts a link to the company's website, showing the price. She bought an £80 pen the other day!!!! And If I tell her about something I've bought or post a picture on Facebook, say, of some decorating we've done she will reply "Oh, what make is that wallpaper? Is it designer?" and I'll have to reply "No, it's just cheap paper" and she'll say "Ahh, I wish I had your design skills, I can't make cheap paper look good". ARGH!
I try not to let it get to me - and I never show my irritation - but DH has to deal with a major rant every time she does it! She drives me CRAZY!!!

Im actually a really competitive person by nature. But I have never understood people who brag... Particularly about things that aren't even accomplishments! Great, your baby sat up a month earlier than mine.... that's just dumb luck. Why brag about it?

My husband's family is full of one-uppers. It's really annoying. But I just ignore them because at least I know I don't sound like an idiot.

They annoy me and I ignore them most of the time. If I'm feeling particularly irritated, then I'll play along to try and get back at them.

This is my mom to a T. Drives me crazy. She asked me directly how I was doing/feeling. I told her I hadn't slept really well lately so I was feeling pretty beat. She responded immediately, cutting me off saying "Oh I slept all day yesterday!!". Thanks mom. Why did you even ask if you don't care?

@Cherrybee: Are you kidding me? I don't think I have ever heard of something so tacky?! Posting the link to their purchases on FB?? I am astounded. Words fail me.

There's a guy who runs a dog in agility events in the same height and class as my dog. Since my dog is getting older now, we don't often beat him time-wise any more, but we used to when she was younger. He LOVES bragging about his dog...what they did, how awesome they are, how difficult their challenges are, etc. Mostly it's harmless, and I treat it like a big joke.
At the last trial we were in we came in first and he came in second in one of the events. He actually had the gall to tell me that I should thank his dog for screwing up on an obstacle, since she 'let' my dog win first. I laughed at him and told him my dog won first based on her own merits, not his faults ;).

@sea_bass: I know, right?! She usually accompanies the pic with some comment about how naughty she is or how she couldn't resist! Her material success is all she's got though so we understand and don't judge her too harshly.

I hate one uppers...I usually ignore them, but still so annoying!

I cut them out of my life if possible!

I do my best to ignore them and not respond/react to their comments.

I try not to buy into it, but if they really grate on my nerves I sometimes say, "Oh, I didn't realize this was a contest. Okay, you win!" That usually does the trick.
