Rosalyn
NOT pregnant, btw.
If you naturally go to a rahz sound, how would you change the spelling to make it pronounced like Rohz-ah-lin?

I pronounce it Rahz, but if I wanted it pronounced RosaLynne, I'd spell it that way...Rosa Lynn, double first name.

I think it's just what people are used to. I definitely pronounce "Rosalyn" or "Rosalind" like "rahz," but would pronounce "Rosalie" like "rose." I really like Rosalind and Rosalie, by the way.

How do you even pronounce Rosa? Is it like Rose-ah? Maybe spell it Rosealyn? Or Rosahlyn?
I think I'd probably just spell is Rosalyn (since I don't like my other suggestions) and then just correct people when they mispronounce it. They'll eventually figure it out!

Maybe Rosalin? I think it still will be Rahzalin half the time though. The double first name isn't a bad idea.

@Adira: ha! Sorry that's my Spanish influence coming through. I didn't even think about that not being obvious. Like Rohz-ah

I would initially think RAHzalin, but wouldn't be surprised to hear it being ROSE-a-lin. The only way I would definitely think the second way is Rosa Lynn, but I prefer Rosalyn and just having to correct it, I guess. Or do Rosalie, but that's a different name!

@septca: @Foodnerd81: I actually prefer Rosalie, but Lynn is a family name we were trying to work in.

@Mrs. Blue: Is it bad I don't even pronounce the a to begin with?? When I see Rosalyn, I pronounce is "Rahz-lin"! I'm the worst...
Could you spell it Roselyn? That might force people to do the Rohz sound you're going for!

@Mrs. Blue: This is R's name! We pronounce it roz-a-lyn. Like President Carter's wife.
ETA- we have never had people say it without the rod sound. We do get Rosalind occasionally along with Rosalyn (no second syllable) but it isn't often.

I would say Rahz-a-lin, but wouldn't be surprised to be corrected. It could go either way.
I agree Roselyn could work, although it would just be two syllables.

@mrs. wagon: this is the same way we say it...except your phonetics may be better than mine

I think it's regional how you would say that name. I'd say Rahz-lynn.

I'd say Rahz-a-lin.
Rosalie and Rosalina I'd pronounce with "rose" as the first syllable.

haha I had to look at it again, I go to Rose-uh-lin...but could see it either way.

I say Rose-a-lynn and I do prefer it that way. I love Rosalie, and I ay that rose-a-lee.

Rose... I have a student with that name and pronunciation right now.

ROH ZA LYNNE
For Rahz I would look for the spelling to be Roslyn...no A.

oh gosh this thread makes me want to hear all of your accents! I cant even imagine Rosalyn being pronounced with a rahz sound!

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: That's what I thought, too, but apparently this name would get mispronounced all the time if we were going for a Rose sound.

@Mrs. Blue: my cousin has this name! She pronounces it raw-za-lin
