I was going to buy a shoe cabinet from Ikea that looked like a piece of furniture (the Hemnes), but alas it is too wide for my small entryway.
On the lookout for another attractive solution that holds a lot of shoes. Esp in the winter when we all have at least two pairs of shoes (snow boots, rain boots, sneakers, etc.)

In the coat closet, otherwise LO will play with them! Even with a room full of toys he always crawls over to the shoes and starts throwing them. Sorry, not very helpful!

@Beehive: they grow out of the shoe obsession. Olive is still kinda obsessed at 2 though. 
We do have a coat closet, but I'm afraid that the shoes will probably just end up sitting in the entryway and not put away. If we have a shoe cabinet though, I think the kids are much more likely to put their shoes away.

@Mrs. Bee: Phew, that's really good to hear! Our current entryway doesn't have room for a shoe storage area, but in the future if we could fit it I think one of those open furniture pieces with cubbies would look really nice.

We put them in our front closet, too. If the shoes are snowy/wet, we leave them at the rugs at the back door or garage (depending where we are coming in from) and move them into the closet once they are dry.

in a pile. hahaha. in the front we have a cube cubby thing, at the backdoor, they pile up on a mat, it's not pretty, but no one sees them.

We come in via the garage most days, so we dump our shoes in the laundry room. I need a boot tray for the wet/snowy conditions and I try really hard to only keep out seasonally appropriate shoes (otherwise my son will put on sandals to go play in the snow).

We have a shoe rack although Im the only one who knows who to use it. Biggest pet peeve!

We have a shoe rack that looks like a cube bookshelf with lots of little square spots. Think the IKEA expedit but small and you can only fit one shoe in each slot (or you can stack flats). I hate that thing though. For the kids we have the tiny kids shoe rack (like two little black vinyl shelves) that sit right below their coat hooks. I really wish we had a coat closet but alas, no closets in our place (only in bedrooms) so it's hooks and shelves for us.
How about a bench with slide-out basket drawers? We have one of those for slippers, flip flops, and sneakers. Our bags get stacked on top.

@mrs. wagon: that's what we had in our last place (and have now), and just a bunch of shoes get tossed into the baskets and you have to rummage through them. am hoping the shoe cabinet keeps them more organized and encourages the kids to put their own shoes away every day.

Our not ideal solution: I've been piling shoes in the garage and my husband straightens them so we don't trip over them or (worse) drive over them, but as it gets colder I want to move them inside so the leather doesn't get ruined. I'd like to find a tall cubby-type solution for the laundry room so our most frequently worn shoes can live there.

We have an ikea bench that has 2 racks for shoes under it. The bad thing is that our boots don't fit on it, so we have them next to the bench.

We currently have a simple stackable shoe rack from Target, but I really love the Hemnes version from Ikea for it's look and affordability. We are moving next week so I have to measure the entryway to see if it would even fit! A lot of my friends just store their shoes in their closets but that idea freaks me out for shoes that you have just worn outside or wear often. My mom is Korean so we were raised to not wear our shoes in the house. I still get super uneasy when I go to friends' houses and they just walk right in and tell me to do the same. GAH!

We have a simple boot mat thing where shoes go. LO's shoes have been added to the mix. It may change in the future, but for now, it's good for our amount of shoes.

We live in a storage-starved condo with an open layout. For our most frequently worn shoes, I have this narrower IKEA Hemnes cabinet in our own narrow entryway: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/60156121/#/80156120
I store boots on the floor of our closet, and my other shoes inside the door on my side of the closet.

We have a closet, but I need more shoe racks or something. Now that the baby is walking and will start wearing shoes ... our shoe situation is going to be out of control! I have 2 girls! Eeeek!

We have a 60 or so inch wide closet at the door way and put shelving in there. Custom made to fit all my different height boots and shoes!
