We don't do it often enough, but we usually have to take our cat to the groomers to get her nails trimmed. She is way too feisty for us to try and do it on our own. Do you take your pet to the groomers to get their nails trimmed or do it yourself? If you do it yourself, any tips on how?

We take our two dogs to the local groomer. She uses a dremmel. DH used to clip them but just barely knicked the quick once and now our dogs won't let us clip them.

I have to put Zeus in a pillow case and pull his foot out to clip his nails, cause nail clipping turns him into a freak.
With Jewel, my tabby, she'll sit nicely in my lap and let me do it.

I trim our cats nails. I wrap him in a towel so that i can control how many limbs are out at one time. LOL. Which is one limb at a time or else I will get clawed to death! Then I sit in the bathroom with the door closed and put him in my lap and as QUICKLY but as safely as possible, I cut his nails.
DH just takes the dog in the garage and tells him to sit and he sits still while DH clips his nails.

My little dog sits calmly and lets me cut hers. Our big dog freaks out, so he has them done at the vet.

No, but my yorkie needs to have his hair cut every 6-8 weeks, so he gets them cut then.

We have to wrap the cat up in a towel and pull out one paw at a time. He screams like he's being murdered but conveniently hops up and runs over to the treat drawer when I'm done. The dog behaves better but her nails are hard to cut and it makes me more nervous to do hers.

@Bao: groomers groom cats? We just rescued one a couple of months ago, I've never owned a cat before.
Our vet or groomer do our dogs nails.

@mrs. 64: lol, yep both cats know where the treats are after their nails are done. I think that's why Jewel sits so nicely. She REALLY loves treats, lol

I'm impressed with you cat mamas being brave enough to clip their nails. I was terrified of being scratched by my cats growing up!!
The groomers do our dog nails, but we use the pedi-paws in between so they don't get too sharp.

We walk the dog on the sidewalk and they get filed down. That is a super lame answer, I know.

This stresses me out! Our girl is not compliant in the nail clipping department. We said forget it and took her to a groomers where she waited in a cage for 3 hours for her turn, and then they said they couldn't do it!
Our vet gave us meds to mellow her out before a vet's visit. Never used them, but think I may give her a pill next time she's due for a nail clipping and see if that helps.
