Every time we put LO down for a nap she screams bloody murder. It's sooooo heartbreaking! It lasts less then a minute and then she's usually asleep, or sometimes will complain for a couple of minutes before she falls asleep. Is this normal? Is there anything I can do to help her not hate naptime as much?

LO's first nap is a breeze and goes down without a peep. But her afternoon nap is a bit of a struggle because she just wants to play (even though she's whining and rubbing her eyes, and is cranky)...The second she's in her sleep sack, she knows she's supposed to nap but is fighting it. She'll cry for a few minutes but then fall asleep.

When the LO used to nap, she rarely ever cried. If she cried, then I knew there was no hope and she would never fall asleep and I just went to go get her. Needless to say, CIO did not work for us.

My LO doesn't fuss or cry when he goes down for a nap cause he's a sleepyhead and actually wants to sleep. But I think part of it also has to do with the fact that he finds his bed a very comforting and relaxing place for him. I make sure he has all of his comfort items, like his Mickey dolls, Aden blankets, favorite stroller blanket. Anything that makes him feel comfortable. Could help maybe?

@banana: I've tried to give LO things, but she only seems to want her thumb. She'll push everything else aside.

@artbee: Is she overtired by the time you put her down? I notice the few times that my LO does fuss for a little bit are the days when he was overtired (either from running around all morning or having a late nap time). I read somewhere that if the LO falls asleep right away (within 5 mins) they were overtired because it usually takes 15-20 minutes for them to naturally fall asleep.

@banana: I've tried putting her down earlier but it's just a crazy crying session that doesn't end.

What is this "nap" that you speak of? It sounds nice.
Some days it is easier, some days it is harder. I never quite know what I'm going to get. The first nap is easy since I usually take one with him. The second and third are hit and miss, I either have to get him started in the swing or car some days.

Like @Rubies and @lemondrop, our first nap is currently easy, but the afternoon nap usually involves a little crying.

She just started the crib nap a couple of weeks ago because she's too big for her swing. Was easier than I thought it would be! @lemondrop:

@owlmom: this isn't crying. This is screaming her head off like I'm throwing her into a fire instead of gently placing her in her crib. Hate it!

@artbee: LO has been doing the awful scream occasionally when we put her down for bed at night. It breaks my heart. Fortunately, it only lasts a minute or two in our case as well.

@artbee: You are so lucky for it to only last a minute!! Heartbreaking- absolutely, but at least it is short. Mine will go on for what seems like forever until I "rescue" him when he fights his sleep.
Lately I've tried turning on the white noise, darkening the room, and patting his back or tummy until he falls asleep. Some days it just doesn't work though.
On the days my husband has him, all he seems to do is sleep, I would love to be a fly on the wall to see how he does it!

LO goes down for her am nap really easily, her pm is a hit or a miss. She's been napping for over an hour now! 2nd nap today! I slept with her for the first 40 mins or so.. I was tired too!

@owlmom: Awful, isn't it?! Luckily bedtime for us has never been an issue. She's so ready to sleep by then and she just goes down, finds her thumb, and she's out.
@lemondrop: We also have white noise and blackout blinds. My LO is less likely to sleep when DH is home. She gets so excited to hang out with him, so she hates sleep even less. As your husband what he's doing!
@chopsuey119: Glad you got a nap in! We usually don't even try with her last nap anymore.

@artbee: He gave me the hint on closing the blinds, other than that he describes what I do- he gets to show me on Wednesday when we are both home, I gotta find out what he does, it is like we stay home with 2 different babies!

@artbee: are you doing a routine for the naps? We don't have any more crying but we did for a looooong time. Once we instituted a nap routine (change diaper, sleep sack, read book, turn out lights, into crib), my son knew what to expect.

@artbee: I have no advice - all I can say is good luck and let me know if you make any progress. I'm going through the same thing w/ my LO, so I do feel your pain. I know she's only 11 weeks now but it's a fight EVERY time she goes down. I'm not sure what I'm going to do when she gets bigger - at least now I can kind of hold her and try to calm her down, even though she's arching her back, flailing her arms and screaming. It takes anywhere from 5-30 minutes to get her to calm down.
