I don't have one so I am fascinated by sister dynamics. I would say half of my friends have strained relationships and the other half are BFFs with their sisters!

We are BFFs! They just threw me a wonderful baby shower yesterday. I'm one of 5, with 4 girls total, so my older sister and I are closest with each other, and my two little sisters are closer to each other, but all 4 of us are very close. I don't know what I would do without them. Sometimes I feel bad that we don't plan on having a lot of kids because I love having so many siblings!

My two sisters and I are glued at the hips. Seriously, the best relationships ever! I love those girls

It's awesome. Aside from DH, my sister is the first to know everything. She knew about my pregnancy from the BFP. I didn't tell my parents until I was 4 months along.
Although when we were young, we'd fight like cats and dogs.

My sister and I are really close. She's 3 years younger and when we were growing up, we fought all the time. When I moved out and went to college, we got closer and didn't really have anything to fight about anymore. Now, she's super excited about being an aunt in November!

Only see them on holidays. They're a lot older than me and I'm not close to either of them.

I don't have a biological sister, but I'm fairly close with my stepsister, considering she lives across the country and I haven't seen her in almost 3 years. We text back and forth a lot. She's a year (and about 2 weeks) younger than me.
I'm also super close with my stepbrother's very soon to be ex-wife. I've always thought of her as a sister (it helps that we could pass as sisters) and I've mentally disowned him and have adopted her. When I miscarried my first pregnancy she came home from work and just cuddled with me in bed. When DH called her I told her she didn't need to come home, and she told him I'm the sister she always wanted--and then immediately remembered that she actually HAS a sister, lol.

Not great. They are only 20 and still in a very different life phase than I am, so it's hard for us to relate to each other. My mom also discouraged them from having a relationship with me for several years. One of them has turned into my mom, so we don't get along well. The other one and I are starting to get closer, and I'm really hoping that as she gets older, we become better friends.

My little sister is my best friend! My older sister and I are really close too. She lives farther away though so we don't get to spend as much time together. Love them both so much!

My sister and I are BFFs. I'm 7 years older so we are at pretty different life stages, but we're still very close. She'll be the fun aunt when we have a LO!

I have 6 sisters and I'm not close with any if them. We live 1,000 miles apart and our perspectives on almost everything in life are even further apart, they don't make an effort to stay in touch, so our relationship is pretty shallow.

I love my sister. We're only 18 months apart so we've always been close. I wish she lived closer - she's in MA and I'm in NJ.

We are the 3 best friends that anyone could have, the 3 best friends that anyone could have...
Bonus points if you can name the movie!

I love my sister! As we've gotten older our relationship has only gotten better.

@lilteacherbee: My sister and I are like that too- we're almost 3 years apart, weren't close growing up, but once I hit the last year of high school and college, we got a lot closer, and now she's awesome. We don't see each other all that often, but she's the best aunt ever to my son, and I love when I do get to hang out with her.

She's my best friend. She's been there through everything. As kids, we fought, but in high school and later, we just came together. She lives near me and loves to spend time with her niece. She's awesome!

Growing up, I could honestly use the word hate when it came to my older sister. She was such a trouble kid and put our family through so much! What with jailbird boyfriends and running away, etc. Once we both got out of high school, we started getting closer and now I can honestly say she's my best friend.
We're 2 years apart and we're now in our late 20's if that makes a difference! We are by NO means similiar in any way, but we get each other so that's what makes it work now I guess.
pear / 1650 posts
two sisters: we argue and sometimes "hate" each other, but no really, we DO love each other and I love having sisters. the youngest and I are having babies three months apart. Perfect!

I have 2 sisters. My oldest sister and I are super close. She's 5.5 years older than I am.
Middle sister and I (almost 3 years apart).. well, you know how close she and I are!

Nope. She's 7 years older than me and we don't speak much. She's made more effort since J was born but she's always disliked me.

As close to BFF as we can be living apart (I'm in FL, M is in SLC, and R is in ARMENIA - peace corps- and we're all from NJ which is where my mom lives.)
We weren't SUPER SUPER close growing up, just normal close. Losing our dad brought us closer. We're just the only ones who truly "get" each other and our weird family too!

I don't have any sisters, but I have two SILs who I loooooove! They really are like the sisters I never had! Does that count??

my sister is amazing. We're opposites in the best way.. she's the free spirit, forever young type who balances out my type-A old lady-ness.
She is the reason i'd never even consider having only one LO, just because there is a chance that LO could have a lifelong friend like I do!

I have a sister 2.5 years older than me and ... we don't really talk. I can't ever figure out why she hates me but I decided to stop caring/trying.
GOLD / wonderful grape / 20289 posts
We have a good relationship. She was so sweet to me as a baby and child, this is one reason I wanted a girl first. My brother couldn't care less when I was born, but my sister wanted to help with everything and play with me. We even used to build a castle out of sheets and she and her friend would make me into a princess and let me order them around And if I ever got in trouble with my parents I'd run to her and she'd comfort me. I slept in her room with her for a long time too, even though I had my own room.
We had some issues when I was in middle school and she was in college.... but I think everyone goes through that at that age. Once she went off to college we were good again.

We have been BFFs since she was born. She is 3 years younger. I feel so lucky to have someone who sees eye to eye with me. When DH could only take a week of new parent leave, she even took off a full two weeks (and called it "aunternity" leave) to stay with LO and me.
I hope if I end up with two girls they will have a relationship like ours!

she is my best friend. I'm glad I only have 1 sister because I feel like I couldn't be as close as I am with her with more than one sister.

we're extremely close and best friends - she's a little less than 2 years older than me, and has largely shaped who i am today and is probably the most influential person in my life. however, things have changed somewhat recently as we moved onto different, almost opposing stages of life. while she is older, she is single and has no plans to get hitched or have kids - ever. meanwhile, i am married and we are ttc. i guess you could say this all put an unexpected strain on our relationship and due to these differences, we noticeably drifted in the last year and a half, and have more heated debates and conflicts surrounding life outlook, preferences, etc. which was very strange at first, just because i looked up to her for everything (advice especially) when growing up. i still do look up to her of course, but it's been a little weird embarking on new journeys without her going through them first, if that makes sense. and of course i respect whatever decision she chooses to make in life, it just took some getting used to because i never imagined we'd be in such different scenarios. she's still my best friend though, and knows me better than anyone else on the planet!

Hmmm I'm close with them but not BFFs.. I'm different than they are so we don't have a lot in common, it's gotten better since I became a mother.

I have 3 sisters, but since we are far apart in age and geography, we aren't super close, but we all get along and love each other. My oldest sister is 45, my second sister is 40, I'm 33, and my little sis is 26.
I'm actually closest to one of my brothers, who is just 22 months older than me. But he's living in France now, so I don't see him as much as I'd like, either.

We're super close- but we didn't always get along when we were younger. Like good sisters, we bickered over clothes and bathroom time etc. Now we talk daily and take vacations together!

We are very close even though we don't live near each other! She's 4 years older than me. We text pretty much all day every day.

I have two sisters.
The one who is 2.5 years younger than me is my BFF.
She comes over EVERY SINGLE DAY and is basically like a free nanny. She is so helpful and she helps me because she ENJOYS IT, not because I ask her too or because she feels obligated. She is one of the most amazing gals ever and I almost wish she could move in with us so I could have her around constantly.
I am also close with my youngest sister (she's 15) but it is a much different relationship. She is still a hyper and giddy teenager and we just don't have a lot in common right now. But I still love hanging out with her!

it's awesome. we don't talk all the time, but when we do it's like no time has passed since we last talked. she loves being an auntie to my lo.

No, and it's really disappointing. She's 8 years older than me and were not at all alike..

@MrsTiz: same!
We're besties, but we're opposites. She is CRAY...and I love it. We are insane in our own ways. When she wants someone to email her boss a nasty note: it's me. When I was someone to dye my hair a fun color: its her.
nectarine / 2466 posts
I have 2 sisters, one is 4 years younger and one is 9 years younger then me. Growing up the older one and I fought like cats and dogs for a while. The younger one and I have always gotten along well. ( except for when she went through a phase of stealing all my clothes when we were older haha )
Now we are all super super close. We all get along extremely well, the three of us plus our mom are all besties. We love to travel together, we do everything together. I probably see my mom 5 days a week ( we walk our dogs together most days ) and I see my sisters at least once a week, most the time more.
I love it I don't know what I'd do without my mom and sisters
