i had my son via c-section almost 7 months ago. my doc never told me how long i should wait after having the c-section to get pregnant again. i've read 18 months, but i don't plan on trying for a VBAC(scheduled all the way). i was just curious if those of you who had c-sections waited, what your doc recommended. and if you got pregnant fairly quickly afterwards, did you get 'talked' to about how it was so early.

My sister's doctor specifically told her to wait at least 1 year before trying again after her c-section, so allow her time to heal everything up. She would want a VBAC if she has a second, though, so I have no idea if that factored into it. My nephew is 21 months old and she is still not ready for another one yet anyway!

@sarbear: My dr wanted me to wait a year but I got pregnant on accident 7 months after my C-section. I'm almost 18 weeks pregnant now and I worry about complications.

I'm 7 months post c-section, my doctor didnt tell me anything specific about waiting to get pregnant, but she asked if I was planning to have another child soon and I said I would definitely wait at least two years before getting pregnant.

Waiting as long as possible to ensure complete healing helps reduce risk of placenta accreta & uterine rupture, which is a risk throughout pregnancy following a cesarean not just labor.
I had ALOT of time between mine but had I needed a repeat this time I had planned on waiting 2 years before ttc again.

I have heard that it's best to wait at least a year but my pregnancy books say 18 months...asking your doctor is probably the best way to go!

My midwife recommended waited 1 year to get pregnant and have another c-section and waiting 18 months for a VBAC.

my doctor told me 18 months between pregnancies to attempt vbac. i had a vbac with olive and she and charlie were 22 months apart, so I got pregnant when Charlie was 13 months old.

My doctor told me to wait 12 months. We started trying again at 14 months and got pregnant at 18 months.

My surgeon told me 18 months between deliveries if I wanted a vaginal delivery. His exact words: don't get pregnant but if you do, use plenty of red wine and lube. Lol!

I'm reviving this super old post, since I was going to ask the same exact question.
My OB told me to wait so there was a good 18m in between c-sections (vbacs are not an option for me)....so, that would mean at a minimum, wait until ds2 is 9 months old. She really stressed this was the minimum, and waiting longer would be better. I'm 35 however, so I don't have all the time in the world.
DS2 is 8m old now and I have the fever...bad!

@ValentineMommy: My doctor told me 18 months. She said if I had an "oops" after 12 months it would be okay, but not ideal. I started TTC a couple months ago and have yet to be successful... The silver lining is that it's one more month for my body to fully recover

my dr. said to wait 18 months after delivery to even get pregnant... DS is 18 months now and while I planned to start trying, we are going to wait another year.

@ValentineMommy: I assumed it was to wait until LO was 18 months, but there is not enough coffee in life, so maybe I am wrong? Ha. Curious about what others say.
It took us almost a year to conceive my daughter, so that is why I didn't listen my doctor and started when she was 10 months. I'm almost 35, so same situation as you!

@ocean81: My doc definitely said 18m from delivery to delivery....I just wasn't sure what other doctors recommended. The baby fever is real though!!!!

I was only 9m pp when I got pregnant. 18.5m apart and I had a vbac!

@ValentineMommy: Oh! Well, I feel dumb, ha. If I get lucky this month, then it will be 18 months between deliveries so I guess I did listen to my doctor! Ha.

My doc recommends 15 months between c-section and next pregnancy. 24 months between births.
My third was born 12.5 months after my second (both sections) and I had to have some extra monitoring and had to deliver early to not risk labor. I'm not a vbac candidate. -

I'm due with #2 in May. I had an emergency C-section with #1, and got pregnant 11 months post-partum. They will be 20 months apart. My doctor was not concerned at all.
My LO just turned 1.
