We are on day seven and it feels like lo's fever will never break. Talked to a nurse this morning and it sounds like this can just happen to some kids, but lo has never had a fever this long and it's starting to scare the crap out of me!

That stinks! Ours was just a few days for the fever part. Mayne two weeks of coughing. I try to remember that the fever is helpful. The whole point of the fever is to help the body fight off the illness, so, while it tells me LO is still sick, it also tells me LO's body is working on it!

His fever only lasted about 2-3 days with croup, but he just had a random virus that caused a 7 day fever, so I feel you. It's so hard to watch

My LO has had croup three times (you're more prone to it if you had it once before). The coughing past only lasted several days. The first time she was under 2 and had to just wait it out. The second and third time, she was old enough to get steroids (liquid form) and it cleared up after a couple of days.

@SeptMomma12: We are out of town so she was seen twice and we're thinking she caught something in one of the waiting rooms..particularly the childrens ER...
@misolee: DD is 3 and had two days of liquid steroids, then decadron, and once the decadron wore off (24-48 hours) she had a rougher (though not absolutely terrible) night last night. She is handling it ok now but I'm so scared for my three month old. Maybe I'm just a little paranoid but he's already had a hospital stay... (It was for a fever at 5 weeks.)

@2littlepumpkins: so sorry - we just experienced this last week while away on holiday. The fever lasted three days, and the cough started on the third day and then we got liquid steroids for him. He had to take two doses over three days and it calmed down within about five days in total. The croup cough turned into a sort of dry insistent coughing attack that would happen once a day. So we gave him a second dose under the guide from our doc. Good luck, it was so not fun but hopefully your LO comes out of it soon. We had lots of doctors on our trip with us so I was asking them what to do/should I be worried constantly!
