Lo came down with croup on Monday night and he has been MISERABLE since then. It seems to be a mild case but I'm just wondering how long until the awful coughing and extreme crankiness go away? I have never seen him so unhappy!

B still has some risidual effects over a week later, but the brunt of it lasted 3 days. Poor baby! I hope he feels better soon!

Sorry to hear.. It was a good 4 days at its worst, and that included a trip to urgent care, oral steroid , and pediatrician follow up. And some residual after that.

@rahlyrah: thanks! We're on day 2 and the hoarse cough is mostly gone but the awful cold symptoms are kicking in. Hope tomorrow is better.
@T-Mom: uuugh that's awful. We haven't been to the dr yet since we're actually not home and it seems to be a mild case.

@hilsy85: we got steroids the morning after he had his first night and it was gone within an hour. I know lots are anti-medication, and I am reticent for antibiotics but croup terrifies me from past experience. Hope he feels better soon!

@scg00387: I am totally NOT anti meds, were just not at home and not near our doc, so we'd have to go to urgent care. His case seems to be mild and the croupy cough is mostly gone, now it seems like a really bad cold. When you say gone free the steroids, so you mean the croupy cough or all symptoms?

@hilsy85: the steroids simply eliminated the croupy cough, e was still sick for a few days ( but no croup recurrence). That stinks while you're traveling

@scg00387: ah gotcha...yeah the croupy cough I mostly gone, sometimes hear it at night for a second but mainly he's just got a regular cough and lots of runniness.

@hilsy85: that's exactly what happens... The steroid takes the croupy cough away and then you are left with the worst cold ever. sorry! Hope your LO gets better soon...

@T-Mom: ah ok so as I thought a steroid probably won't help at this point. Waahh of course this happens while we're on vacation...

@Smurfette: ugh crappy...slept slightly better last night but hit up at 4 and wouldn't go back to sleep. Has a bad phlegmy cough and a low grade fever and just very cranky. Calling the pedi today To see what they think. Thanks for asking
