Standard paternity leave for DH is 1 week, but he saved 2 weeks of vacation. He got an unexpected promotion that came with an extra week of vacation that his boss is letting him use this year too (supposed to start in 2013). Between those weeks and some flexibility of him being able to work from home and managing his branches and the holidays-- he'll be off for almost 6 weeks!

Wow! That is awesome! DH doesn't have paternity leave and he only took off 1 day since I went into labor over the weekend. I think I am going to have him take off more this time, though. I don't know WHAT I was thinking last time.

Wow, that is amazing!!! You are going to love having him home to help out for 6 weeks!! He stayed home for 2 weeks. He hated going back to work but wanted to save his time for other times he might be needed to take sick time since I have no sick or vacation time until July 2013 after taking all of mine for maternity leave.

Hubs works for such a small company that they have no real policy and are pretty much just letting him do what he wants. He will probably take 1 week completely off and then do another week where he stays home but will do some work remotely. Then he'll go back to work but with the flexibility to work from home if and when I need him.

I think DH will take a week or less at the beginning with me, and then maybe a week after I have to go back to work.

We're thinking he'll take 1 week off and then work a week of half work days (he'd be home by 11am). But if it's really rough, he has lots of sick time he can use to stay home a little longer, too.

He gets 2 weeks of paternity leave. He also gets another 5 weeks of vacation for the year, so he could take some of that too. All depends on what projects he has going on. The two weeks is no question for sure. I am planning on asking my Mom to take vacation the first week I am home by myself since DH travels for work.

I'm due Nov. 5th so my husband is planning on taking off full time through Thanksgiving, then going back MWF through the Holidays at the end of December and returning full time at the beginning of January.
I'm hoping she's not too late because I really want him home full time for those few weeks, but that's still the plan whenever she arrives (if late he'll take less full-time off and if early, he'll take more time).
He has a lot of leave saved up as a state employee and his department is very family friendly and flexible about it. I'm so glad, because while I get my full 12 weeks FMLA only two are paid from vacation I have set aside. -
DH is taking one week, with the option to take more time if he wants to. There's no "official" policy at his company, they're flexible with letting him take the amount of time we feel he needs.

DH works from home but when we brought home DS he worked a lot more out of the house to get some extra income before I went back to work.

DH took 2 days off work, 1 while I was in labour she was born on a Saturday night so he took Monday off. It worked out terribly, he was planning on taking a week off, but she was born during march break (almost 3 weeks early) and all his co-workers were out of the office on vacation. The plan was for him to hold down the fort while they were away, then he'd have the next 2-3 weeks where he could leave at any time I went into labour. My sister stayed with me that whole first week though, I couldn't have done it without her.

DH's employer was really flexible with him. He took a total of three weeks off to be with us at home, then somehow managed to take another week between Christmas and New Years.

Mine does not get paternity but is planning on taking 2 weeks off using PTO.

He took 2.5 weeks off - he's a partner at a small law firm so there was no established amount of leave, but he couldn't let his caseload go for much longer after that. He did have to do one hearing during his leave he couldn't get covered.

DH is taking a week. But the holidays will be going on so he'll have a bunch of random days off throughout the early newborn phase since Christmas and New Years will fall during that time..

That's awesome! I don't think DH is getting that much time at all. Maybe they'll be more flexible with him for like a week. That's about it.

DH has just been going in to his office when he has to. My parents stayed with us for the first week & DH worked 2 half days. The 2nd week he took 2 full days off & worked 3 half days. This week, he's going to try to come home early when he can.
I've been having trouble adjusting to caring for DS all alone, so DH is trying to be flexible with taking time off. We both want him to save days for an extended Christmas vacation & for him to care for DS if/when he gets sick from daycare when I go back to work.

With #2 DH took off the day I delivered (a Friday) and then Monday and went back to work full time.
This time he is taking 2 weeks. He has a lot of banked sick time and vacation time that will have to be cashed out at the end of the year if he doesn't use it. It will be nice to have him home this time.

so jealous! my husband got 12 days (incl weekends) because she was born on a thursday night - so friday, the following mon-fri & then columbus day monday.

DH could have taken up to 6 weeks, but took 4. Honestly, by that time we were both kind of ready for him to go back to work. LO was a very easy newborn, so he finished a ton of house projects and had gotten the itch to be back in the office, and I was ready to figure out what real life would be like with me at home with LO.

DH got a new job this year. Thankfully he starts with 2 days of leave accumulating every month, which he's been saving.
Even though he won't have a ton of time saved up, we'll have the holidays soon after baby arrives. We should be able to finagle an extra week or two together.

Dh made his own schedule after Lo was born, so he worked half days and came home around 1-2pm. My mom was here with us so he didn't feel like he needed to be home 24/7.
This time around he'll be off for 2 weeks after the baby's born. He'll probably work 2 days and take the rest of the week off afterwards -
Both times, DH took off 2 weeks immediately and then the month of December. We feel really fortunate that he is/was able to take that much time.

DH took a week off and then he worked from home for a week. When he worked from home he pretty much did work the whole time. I was just nervous about being home alone with LO so I wanted him there just in case, but I did do pretty much everything on my own.

DH is a teacher, and we had discussed him taking two of my twelve months off, but with no pay for him during that time (can't collect maternity benefits concurrently, nor does his school board top up) that went out the window pretty quickly!
He is going to take a combination of personal business days and sick days for 5 working days off, give or take a day or two depending on what day of the week we have the baby.

Wow! That is wonderful! Congrats! My husband had to use vacation at first, and they later gave him leave time of a week (they created a new policy this year).

DH got a week off and it was vacation time. His company is small and there's no paternity leave. He went back to work today.

DH got 3 days of paternity leave butting up to a weekend and went back to work on Monday. He has PTO saved up, but my mom was here the first few weeks and we decided he should save them for when I was alone and needed help or family vacations/long weekend trips, etc.

3 weeks. He took vacation. He is also able to use sick/comp time and unpaid leave within the first year of his life. The first week and a half/two weeks would have been near impossible without him!

wow, that is really nice! DH works for the government so he has TONS of sick leave. He's planning on taking three weeks I think, although if he wanted he could take 12...

Last time LO was born between semesters so he had a week off before going back to class. This time- zero! I am slightly freaking out about this/hoping I'll go into labor on Friday so at least we have the weekend...

Hubs started a new job in August, so he will only have about 2 days of vacation saved up. He could take some unpaid time, but with me taking probably 5-6 weeks of disability (at 60% pay) we'll need all the money he can get. Luckily, my mom is retiring on Nov. 30 (we're due in Jan), so she'll be available to come and help me.

Wow, I wish DH could get 6 weeks off!! He was only able to take 2 weeks off work with #1 and he saved up all his vacay/sick time for that.

I don't think he gets any paternity leave, so he will have to use his vacation time. Our vacation time is used in hours as we want so he doesnt have to take off full days. I think ideally, he works half days for 2 or 3 weeks instead of take off an entire single week.

DH got one week of paid paternity leave and then took another week of annual leave. DD was born on a Thursday night and he went back to work on a Friday two weeks later; it worked perfectly!
I was so nervous when he had to go back at first and be left alone with the baby for the first time...
