I think I'll support them for as long as they need it. I don't want them to have to worry about food or rent if they are having hard times. That said - I'm not planning on paying for shopping sprees and manicures.
My parents generously paid for my education and that helped me get on my feet after school.

i'm with you. until they get a job and secure their own finances? but i would cut them off if i felt like they were leeching and being lazy about finding jobs. and i just hope the economies much better when our kids are finding jobs.

My parents always encouraged me to make my own money but never hesitated to give me money when I asked for it or needed it. They also always bought me tons of stuff all throughout my childhood and college, whether I wanted it or not! But spending money was always up to me to come up with, and after I graduated from college and my dad put a down payment on a used car for me as a graduation present, I was pretty much on my own.

Rob Sr.'s parents were the same way as he was growing up (he had every cool gadget, toy, etc that any kid could ever ask for) but they didn't have much money when he got older, so he was on his own pretty much since late high school. He went to school practically for free and always had a job so he's been fine all this time.

ETA: oops, I didn't answer the question. I would love to always provide support for my kids whenever they need it, and I hope to be in a financial position where that's always possible. But I'd like for my kids to always be earning some kind of money, even if it's just for spending money to go out with their friends. I wouldn't mind providing the essentials (housing, food, clothes, books) until they are done with college (or high school if they don't go to college).
