R had her first real steps the other day (!!) and it's pretty fun to watch her practice. I'm in no rush but I was curious as to how long this progression would take (although I'm sure it's different for each kid). She went from standing on her own for 2 seconds last week to steps this week!
How long did your kiddo take from the first steps to what you would say is walking regularly?

I was just going to ask the same question! L has taken steps for a couple weeks now, but doesn't seem closer to walking.

It was a long time for us! She took her first steps in late august and just started walking almost exclusively this week!

Maybe about a month? We're still at the "drunken sailor" stage, but my son is walking maybe 60% of the time now? Crawling or being worn the rest.

It's been about a month for us, and he's gone from first steps, to Frankenstein imitation, to about 90% walking. He only falls when he's excited and thinks he can walk really fast.

I asked this question not too long ago and it seemed like for young walkers it took about a month and for older walkers it was much quicker, usually a week. My LO took her first steps right after she turned ten months and three weeks later she was walking the large majority of the time.

2-3 weeks? As soon as he figured out how to stand up on his own without pulling himself up. He started taking steps at 11 months... definitely a full fledged walker before his birthday.

A matter of days. Once she took the first 2 or 3 steps on her own, I think it was within a few days she was taking 10 steps on her own and the next day she was doing laps around our apartment. She took her first steps at 11 months....but she never crawled.

@birdofafeather: I was just wondering this! Sadie's walking pretty well with her walker & has decided she like standing without holding on. BUT, I'm SO not ready for her to start walking yet! STOP GROWING!

She took her first steps at 11.5 months, but didn't really start walking a ton until about 5 weeks later.

It was a little over a month between first steps and pretty much giving up crawling and maybe another month before she stopped falling a lot!

@oliviaoblivia: @birdofafeather: j has also started standing from a squat without holding anything ! The first time he did it I was like "whaaaaaaat". We are about to be running around !!

I think it was a few weeks until walking became his favorite mode of transportation. He started walking at 12 months, but got into a couple weeks later. At 14 months, he's everywhere.

B can stand about 5 seconds with no hands...not stable enough for steps yet.

I took about 1.5-2 weeks with both kids. They could take steps, but at the same time could crawl really fast, so they would still crawl a lot. But eventually that phased out...

DS took his first steps at 10.5 months by 11 he was always walking and by 11.5 he was running...I haven't sat since...

LO is 11 months today and has been taking independent, steady steps for two weeks but still definitely prefers to cruise or crawl.

maybe a week and a half? he walked 8 steps in a row his first time, the night before his first birthday. he'd been standing along and getting up to standing without climbing on things for a good 2 or 3 months before that.

Lo JUST took two steps yesterday! I am hoping since he's a bit older (12 months) he moves to walking quickly!

W never "took steps" he just up and walked... but he was over 13 months old. It was weird, lol. That morning he was crawling, within a few hours he was walking everywhere.

@Navy_Mommy: the same thing happened with my friend's DD. she said she told DD to stand up (she was 14 months at the time) and she did and just started walking! i think my friend nearly fell over with surprise!

@birdofafeather: I think she's ready but afraid. She's been standing unassisted for two months but as soon as she realizes what she's doing she sits down! She is an absolute pro with her walker she does it one handed mostly and can navigate around obstacles and back up with it. The only time she takes steps is when she is paying attention to something else. She does a backwards cruise along the sofa without holding on but having her backside supported. I told her it was cheating it she doesn't listen. 
I was so eager for her to crawl and now wish I could put her down somewhere and have her be there when I turn my back. I imagine it'll get exponentially harder with her walking. She's the type that will run instead of walk. Here we go!

LO took his 1st steps just a few days after his 1st birthday, but he is on the cautious side, so it took him some time to get comfortable walking more than 3-4 steps at a time. Shortly after he turned 13 months, he started walking across the room to get something that he wanted, and at about 13.5 months he was walking on a regular basis. So, about 1.5 months for our LO.
