Now that I pick up Charlie from daycare, every minute of my commute counts. I time it down to the minute now... which is scary, because if I'm late then our daycare charges us $20 for every five minutes!!

How long is your commute?

Way too long! I take the bus, so I walk 5-10 minutes to the nearest bus stop, then take the bus for about 30 minutes, but depending on the day and time my retail shift starts, I may have to wait 15 minutes for my transfer halfway through. Don't get me started on getting home on the end of the day, especially after evening shifts!

My commute time is zero since I don't work. My husband's commute is 3 minutes to get to train station, 9 minutes from our stop to his work stop, 5 minutes to walk through train station to get to his office. Train system here in tokyo is really great and we never have to wait more than a couple minutes for a train plus we live right by a major train line.

My commute's about 15 minutes by car - the joy of living in a small town! If you can believe it, my previous job took about 5 minutes to drive to so when I moved to my new job the 15 minutes was a real shock!

I am a SAHM so I do not commute. But my husbands commute right now is 336 miles round trip... thankfully he only does it once a week (he goes over on Sunday night and comes home Friday evening). Hopefully he gets the more local site soon but he will still be driving about 60 miles round trip every day

My commute is about 15 minutes on a good day with no traffic. I'm rarely that lucky though so it usually takes me about 30 minutes.

It used to take me one hour...I had to take three trains to get home, so if I missed a connection or a train was late, it could take up to 2 hours.
Now, I just walk from the bedroom to the living room, so about 10 seconds, lol!

30 to 45 minutes depending on traffic. Work is 28 miles from home. Dh's work is 45 minutes away.

12-15 minutes depending on traffic. Even though I live and work in a small town/rural area, there's always a chance of getting behind a semi or a tractor (not so much tractors now that weather is colder). My commute used to be nearly an hour so it's great now.

35-45 minutes in the morning, 45-1:15 in the evening. I hate it! Hoping to work at home part time once this kid arrives.

Zero at the moment since I WFM but I may start to look around for office work again. I think I am going a bit batty at home.

about 20 mins to go and come back if there isn't traffic. The ride back is usually faster because I don't leave during traffic hours.
That being said I modified my work hours because I was always late to pick up mavi at daycare.

It should take about 20 minutes each way, but usually it's more like 45!

Mine is 30-45 minutes, depending on traffic and how early I leave. The earlier, the less traffic.
My husband's commute is a good 45-50 minutes though, poor guy. But he always works an hour less than I do every day, so we tend to have a very close schedule.

45 mins in the morning and 45-1.5 in the evening. We commute together in the morning so we can take the HOV lane. At night, I drive and he takes the commuter rail. We only live 12 miles from the city which makes the commute that much more brutal.

Too long! It's only 15 miles, yet the drive is to/from the busiest area in the metro detroit area.... I drive around 30-45 minutes in the morning and 45 min - 1 hour at night.

One hour each way plus walking to work. To catch the bus, I wake up at 5, catch the bus at 6:30, and get to work right at 8. Than, I work through lunch so I can take the 4:30 bus home and get home right before 6. I hate it.

Too long also. It takes me about 40 minutes in the morning and 45-1 hr in the evening. Traffic is awful.

Just over an hour. I take the train into work, then walk 13 mins to the office. I get to work from home every now and then, but a job closer to home would be great!

A little less than an hour in bumper to bumper traffic every day, both ways. The only saving grace is that SO and I work so close to eachother that we can commute together, most days. Thank the lord!

I live in Minneapolis, so when it isn't raining or snowing it usually takes me anywhere from 15-45 minutes each way. During rain or snow, all bets are off and it could take over an hour each way. I live only 12 miles from work, so this is terribly frustrating!
cherry / 204 posts
About 20 minutes... depending on what time I leave in the evening it can be 20-40 minutes home.

10 minutes...and I am so grateful for it. I hate long commutes. It's a compromise because it does mean my husband has a long commute. Our next move we'll probably move closer to where he works.

My office is 15 minutes from my house if I drive when there is no traffic. But my commute is more like 30 minutes each way. Less when school is out. And a whole lot longer when it rains. People in Nashville are scared of rain. WHY Southerners?! It's just water... it's all going to be OK!!

It's about 35 minutes going to work and an hour coming home during traffic hour.

I carpool with hubby and our drive is about 30 minutes. But we get lots of snow and blizzards where we live during winter, so the drive can be as long as an hour or more in bad weather!

If I drive it's right about 30 minutes, but if I take the train it's an hour. If I drive I get to listen to a book on CD and I take the train I read along the ride. I find the train to be a lot more relaxing but it means that Hubs has to pick me up after work instead of going straight home.

15 minutes and there's zero traffic. I hate stop and go traffic. Drives me nuts!

I stay home with LO but even before then, I worked from home. DH's commute is about 30 mins by bus, it's a direct bus that drops him off in front of work. If he takes the car, it takes him about 25 mins.

By bus about 1.5 hours and by car about 45 to 70 minutes depending upon traffic.

I either take the bus or ride my bike.
Bus is ~3 minutes to walk to the nearest stop, then a ~20 minute ride.
Bicycle is ~25 minutes. I think I've stopped biking for the year because it is getting cold and they are doing major road construction near me. People are clueless and I've almost been hit so many times!
