LO is obsessed with jumping.. only problem is he doesn't jump. He crawls up on the couch, yells "jumping" and then bends his legs and falls straight forward. Adorable but you have to be watching him continuously or he will "jump" without warning. How long from when your LO started trying to jump until they got it? We are on week 2.

This is hilarious to me because my daughter, who is 2 years and 4 months old still does not know how to jump and does exactly as you described. We keep trying to get her to really jump and she just doesn't get it. It is comical.

@Rubies: It is hilarious.! And he's soooo proud of himself. But you have to be on your A game because he will randomly yell "jumping" and if you aren't there he will still go for it.

Haha. LO jumps much like B. Our niece didn't get it until almost 3.

Age 2. I have heard it's very unusual for them to do before 2.

From teaching lots of kids at gymnastics, most kids learn to jump with two feet around 2 years old and refine it until 3 years old. Personally, I have a kid who started jumping at 16 months old and so we had to make rules like couches aren't for jumping.

At 21 months, he understands the concept of jumping - he will bend his knees simultaneously and get ready to launch, but his feet don't actually come off the ground. Thankfully he only wants to jump up and down and not off of things! I asked a physiotherapist once about jumping and she said it's usually a 2-year milestone.

I think my DS actually managed to actually get some hang time right around 23 or 24 months.

@Rubies: Olive still does not jump either at 26 months. But she was delayed in all her physical milestones and has always been super cautious.
i think charlie was jumping by 15 months.... maybe a little later. 15 is when he started running.

I have heard that most kids jump at age 2 - both my kids fit this and were actually jumping right at 2 or shortly there after

@Mrs. Bee: Wow, early... B has been trying to jump since 17 months but has not gotten it yet. He's 18 months.

P has been jumping while holding onto things (like the crib rails) for a while. But within the last week or so she has actually gotten in the air from the floor when she is "dancing", which is just really fast jumping. So, I guess we will say 19 months she is jumping from standing on the floor. She does not jump off anything, though (like furniture).

She's a pretty good jumper and has been for at least 6 months now. I think it just took time for her to build those muscles and actually get off the ground.
