I think I have a compulsive tendency to overpack diapers in the diaper bag. Well, as a FTM I'm sure the entire diaper bag is overpacked "just in case!" But I was counting diapers yesterday and I had 6 diapers in there! I always keep putting 2 more in when I go out. How many do you normally have in your bag (for a regular outing)?

I usually try to make sure I have 3 handy if I'm gonig out for the afternoon or something. I totally overpack when we go out of town or for an overnight, though!

Usually 3-4 for just a regular outing.

I've never had to change more than twice on an outing, so no more than 3.

@shopaholic: I'm like you. I always over pack diapers. I'll pack 3 just to go down the street to the coffee shop!

I have like 10 in our diaper bag. I'm not sure what I think is going to happen that will require 10 diapers, but I want to be prepared.

8 for two babies.
I never end up changing them more than once while we're out though.

I usually have 4 or so. I like to have 2 at least for any outing but I usually double up because we might stay out longer than planned.

I've always had both of our bags stocked with 12.
I'll do random switches when he outgrows sizes, but we're always stocked to go two + days (DS only goes through 4-6 a day depending on his bms) -
we keep around 4 in the diaper bag at 11 months, but i definitely had more when he was smaller!!
actually i've gotten really lazy and when we go out for 1-2 hours at a time i bring.. nothing 0_0! just a package of mum mums or cheerios in my purse.
i haven't needed to change his diaper on short trips in ages! so much easier than when they were littles

5 for the average outing. Less if it's just to the grocery (3), and if it's all day I try to take at least 10. Maybe I overpack, but it would really stink (no pun intended) to run out!

I think 3 or 4. But we are rarely out long enough for a diaper change. Or she is sleeping so I wait till she is awake.

4 for a regular outing. I took 3 once and used all of them, so I decided an extra one was necessary...usually we only use 1-2 if we're gone for a few hours.

2-3 if we're going to be gone a couple hours. If I'm going to just make a quick run to the store or go pick DH up from work I won't even take the bag! *gasp*

L HATES a wet diaper - even slightly wet - so I usually keep 5 in there.

I used to pack 6-8. But now that she's a little older and more predictable, I pack 3, maybe 4.

But, at 6m old, we've gotten into such a rhythm that I pretty much know he only goes through 4-5 all day. So, if I'm going out for four hours, we'd need max 2. -
4-6 cloth and 2 disposables. When he was a newborn he would go through that many during a regular outing. Now I change him maybe once, if we're out for a while, but it's a hard habit to break. You never know what's going to happen!
Except today I took him for a walk and to run a few errands and I didn't even bring the diaper bag, lol.

5ish. I dont live near any shopping besides Walmart and a Kmart. The rest I have to travel off island for. So I dont usually have quick outings so when I go out its usually for awhile. Even then I usually use like 1-2. So I def have extra.

I over pack everything too.... but she's in cloth and those diapers are thick! So we only have 3 in there. When we're traveling and use disposables I put more in, but they are so much smaller and we're probably going to be out for awhile during the day.

I overpack as well. I usually have 6 in the diaper bag. Dh just threw some into my trunk so we'll always have more on hand without having to carry it everywhere.

Usually one or two. I rarely need more than one. I figure if I do, I can always buy a small pack... It's never been necessary.

It really depends on where we are going and how long. I have taken lo out for about 4 hours max and 3 diapers is a good amount to keep with me. I like to carry light so I don't have a bulky diaper bag.
This is my all in one bag. It has many small compartments so I can fit two of lo's outfits (including socks, mittens, and a hat), diaper changing mat, 3 diapers, wipes, hand sanitizer, two burp cloths, small lotion, his formula and bottles, my wallet and cell phone.

I have like at least 10 sposies in there...but I ran out once and now I am paranoid!

UPDATE: After concluding that 5 seemed like the sweet spot average from these replies, I've been keeping that many in the diaper bag and so glad I did!!!
This afternoon's outing resulted in 4 diaper changes! I only had one diaper and one wipe left! We used up our spare outfit too! That signaled "it's time to go home!" Loud and clear! -

I have 5-6 in there and I keep a few spares in the car. I never want to be out without a diaper, so that last one is my signal that it is time to head home!
