My LO is 9.5 months old and
i had to pick her up from daycare today because she had a temperature and was inconsolable. I took her to the doctor and turns out she has an ear infection. This is her 3rd ear infection since she started daycare at 12 weeks. I'm concerned that she is getting ear infections too often

Zero. I just looked online today and read that ear infections aren't contagious. One boy's grandpa announced that he had an ear infection at gymboree today so that kind of freaked me out.

Oh no, that does seem like a lot I hope she gets well soon!:( My four year old got her first one this last summer and my 7.5 month has yet to have one.

E has had one single ear infection, and one double ear infection... so I guess that counts as 3.

My LO hasn't had an ear infection yet. That does sound like a lot.

Six or 7+. DS is on his second set of ear tubes and has had his adenoids taken out.

@artbee: yes thats right they aren't contagious but they can be caused or triggered by congestion/colds which are sometimes contagious.

We didn't have any ear infections and she's 18 months.

@Mrsbells: I've had a bad cold for a week that my LO luckily has not caught. She's not in daycare but we do go to story hour at the library and gymboree so she does see kids..... but I think she gets her good immune system from our dog constantly licking her
DH got my cold but LO didn't and she spends all day every day with me, I don't know how we managed that.Hope your LO feels better!

LO is 10 months old and has had a double ear infection. He looked so uncomfortable

My DD probably had 9 ear infections by the time she was 15 or 16 months. The pedi said there were no more antibiotics to be used effectively. She ended up getting tubes at that point. We had zero ear infections after that, or at least, if she had any, they weren't that uncomfortable for us to really notice.

@Mrsbells: His ears just don't drain well. His first set of tubes was at 8 months old because not only was he getting them back to back but he was becoming resistant to the antibiotics so it wasn't worth trying to wait them out or treat them with medication, particularly when he was always full of fluid regardless of if it was infected or not and his hearing was down to 40% of normal so developmental delays were starting to become a concern. Within a week of his first set coming out like they were supposed to (20 months), he was already getting ear infections again. Poor guy has my husband's sinus issues it seems and has a lot of sensitivity to pollens and dusts so regardless of the fact that he is in daycare, he was going to get ear infections.
ETA: he will be 2 years old next week.

@T-Mom: Oh I see so in your case tubes fixed the problem. are tubes uncomfortable for the baby?
@pelikila: aww sorry to hear that he is so prone to ear infections. Hope this set of tubes is more successful

G- 1 at 8 months old
P- 0 so farI've only had one & it was as an adult. My sister got them all the time as a baby & toddler though. She got tubes in her ears & her adenoids removed in kindergarten.

@Mrsbells:Yes the tubes allowed the fluid in her ears to drain. And after that she was a totally different child. the LOs don't even notice that the tubes are there, they are so tiny.

@Mrsbells: good luck! I hope she doesn't get more.. Maybe if the weather starts warming up it will get better, and you're seeing back to back infections you could ask to see a pediatric ENT..

DS is 17 months old and still hasn't had one. DH had them a lot growing up and needed tubes in his ears. We're hoping to avoid that with LO!

At 9 months he's had 3. The first at 5 months. If he gets another one it's off to the ENT for him!

LO is almost 8 months and has had 1 ear infection and started daycare at 12 weeks.
I had an ear infection last month and OMFG the pain!!!!!!....felt so bad those LO's with infections!!!

13 months old and zero ear infections so far.

13 months and 2 ear infections. 5 months and 11 months!

9 months and zero ear infections, but he's also never been sick. I think it helps that we have a nanny, so he isn't exposed to many people/things.

At 11 months old, LO got a double ear infection and when I went back to the doctor a week later, his double ear infection had gone to a single. They upped the antibiotics and finally kicked it. So I guess depending on how you'd count it, two or three.
DH got my cold but LO didn't and she spends all day every day with me, I don't know how we managed that.
