Our last two apartments were duplexes, and in the end we realized that one floor was probably better for us!

Part of it is just living in New York... brownstone apartments tend to be pretty narrow and that makes for two narrow floors on top of each other. We moved into a larger building, and the layout is much better... all of the rooms are on one floor, and the rooms are closer together too.

If we didn't live in the city (or the kids were older), I think we'd be a lot more open to two or more floors!
