And how many did they end up having?
My parents didn't want kids originally but ended up having two. My dad is happy with two, my mom wishes she had more now.

My mum always said that she wanted "a football team" but she was diagnosed with GD during her first and only pregnancy and was so scared of the prospect of needing insulin one day (she's scared of needles) she never had another baby....
I don't think my dad ever really *wanted* children but he ended up with two from his first marriage, one from his second marriage (me) and two step daughters from his third marriage!

My mom wanted a ton! I think she said initially she and dad has wanted three- but as life went on she kept wanting more. She has six

2 but they had 3. My ypunger brother was a (very welcomed) oops. My mom often has said that she debated about having a 4th to keep him company. He was 9 years younger than me.

My folks said they wanted four and were open to five. I'm the oldest of five.

Presumably four because that's how many they ended up with? I do know the first two of us were happy "surprises" (when my mom was only 18 and 19!) so who knows. Maybe my younger brother and sister were bonus surprises too.

My parents wanted 2 but ended up with 3.

My parents wanted a boy, but stopped at 3 girls
correction: they wanted one of each, and stopped trying for a boy after my younger sister.

My parents thought they were happy/done with 2 and my mom had her tubes tied at 28. They both longed for a 3rd.

I don't think my mom had a number in mind. She had 3.
My dad didn't have a number either, but my stepmom wanted 2 kids. So my dad also has 3.

they would've happy with a third. but mostly just happy they had one of each. my mom lost the (unplanned) third in an early m/c.

However many they had (being the good Catholics that they are). I'm the third of 5. My mom thought they were done after the 4th (as in, she wouldn't be able to get pregnant again) so I think the youngest was a surprise but not an oops.
DH's parents had planned on 2, then after the first two were born, his mom just knew their family wasn't complete yet. They had 3.

My parents wanted 2, but had 3 (I was an oops!).
DH's dad didn't want any more (he had a son from his first marriage already) but DH's mom tricked him into having BIL and DH. He didn't regret it. He said it was the only good thing to come from their marriage.

They wanted 2 - boy first, girl second - and my mom got exactly what she wanted so they were done.

They never really said, but I think my Mum was so terrified of having to go through another unscheduled c-section, after two already, that it put her off any more babies!

Apparently my daddy didn't want any since he was so much older. After my brother he only wanted him. Then I came along and he was ecstatic to have a daddy's girl. My mum wanted a third but my daddy became ill after I was born (he was 60). My mum adopted my little sister 5 years after he passed and now is also raising my nephew. So she has two grown children and two 8 year olds.

2 and 2. Although my brother and I are 8 years apart, for a long time they thought they might be one and done, before deciding to have me.
