If money weren't a factor, how many kids would you have? Let's say you could afford a large enough house, a larger car, all the additional food and extra things you would need, etc. I'm curious to see what the maximum number of kids people would have is.

I have one child right now and don't want any more. If I suddenly become so wealthy that money wasn't an issue anymore and never would be for the rest of my life or my children's life or my children's children's life, (etc. etc.). I would probably have one more child.

I think still 2. Financially that's best, but emotionally, energy wise, stress wise, I don't think I could handle more.

if money were no object I think I could adopt 2 more kids. I love our big family and my kids want an even 3 boys and 3 girls. Its not going to happen but it would be fun. We might be able to adopt one more time in the future but it's not a definite.

In addition to covering the basics, If we made enough money to be able to save money to the level we want, take at least annual vacations, do fun weekend events, and afford occasional night/weekend daycare for more mental breaks - I would want three. As it stands, 3 in daycare would literally not be financially possible, and we do not want to have a third once our first is in Kindergarten.

I voted 4, but really it would be between 3 and 4 for me. It would depend on how we were doing with 3. Realistically, we will have two, maybe three, but that's a slim chance.

To me, money isn't my determining factor- to me it is about how sick I get pregnant, how many kids I can give 100% to, how DH and I do it all, how I still have career goals, and how many kids I can give 100% to without going too nuts and still taking care of myself, feeling like myself and having energy. (In other words- it isn't that we are rolling in dough, the other things out-weigh our finances!)

I don't think money would change my mind from only wanting 2. I'm turning 36 soon and this pregnancy has been more challenging, so I think I'm done after 2!

Three. We're currently pregnant with our third and I feel 100% content in the thought that this is our last one. Even with all the things you listed, I still think I will be maxed out at three - maxed out on patience, energy, attention, and just my ability to be the best mum I can be.

Hmm 5 or 6. I say this without even having my first here already. We're shooting for 2 or 3 as that is all that we can handle and afford. In this scenario age also wouldn't be a factor- I only have six more years of baby carrying years ahead of me.

Ditto to @Foodnerd81: ...two is challenging enough, I don't think I'm mentally/emotionally capable of handling another, no matter how much money I had.

If we made enough money that I wouldn't have to work before my kids were in school, and we could help them all out a bit with college (plus everything else you mentioned), I'd have 4. I come from a family of 4 kids and I love it. Seriously love it. As it is, we will likely max out at 2.

Aside from money I'm not a fan of pregnancy and L&D. So those two things aside I'd like 3. But I think 2 will be perfect for us with the possibility of a 3rd down the road.

We have one and want one more. I don't think this would drastically change, if we had a buttload of money. However, with the extra resources, I'd probably be moved to revisit the option of adoption, and go for a third.

We're limited by birth method. My girls are too big to come out vaginally and I don't want to risk their mom for future babies.

Three. For me it is less about the money, more about difficult pregnancies and c-section recovery.

Romantically I was inclined to say 4 (2 girls and 2 boys, of course ;)) but I think the answer would be 2 MAYBE if we could swing everything including private school for both children from pre-k through college (which is not possible right now for us). In reality we are very likely sticking with our one. At least he will get all our resources!

We have 2, and I would consider going for 3 with truly unlimited funds. I wouldn't want a bigger house though! I grew up in a big house and I think it's a big reason I'm not closer with my family. I love them but we all go our own ways.

I'll probably just have 1, hopefully 2 more, just like we plan to do.

3 is all that we could emotionally handle, I think. 2 has been a handful, but we are crazy and trying for a 3rd. I wouldn't want more than that, even with gobs of cash : )

We have three girls, in an ideal world where the economy was forever stable and my husband's mercurial industry was calmed we'd probably have a fourth. But alas, his vasectomy is on the horizon

We have four and it's lovely. I like that no one is left out and I can still drive a regular car. As morbid as this is, I like that they'll have a big support network when myself and my husband die.

Unfortunately for us, it's not only what we can afford in terms of living expenses/house/daycare/vacations, but in terms of the thousands of dollars it's costing us to even have a baby. Stupid IF.
