I was surprised to realize that we probably know several dozen neighbors by name! I'll definitely be sad when we move later this year...

How many neighbors do you know by name?

We live on a dead end street and have 11 houses down it that we consider "neighbors." I know 5 houses by first name, and 3 more by last name. The one's I don't know are the furthest from me and closest to the front, so we don't see them at all. Sadly, our closest neighbors are moving at the end of the month. I always get nervous about new neighbors.

We're getting there! Both DH and I are horrible with names though, so we're trying to get better at it. When we meet a new neighbor, we have a system. If we meet them together, I remember the wife's name while DH remembers the husband's name. So lame, I know, but we immediately go home and write them down so that we don't forget them!
We just met a couple two doors down from us and of course neither of us remembered their names! I was so mad since they have a LO who is about 2 and are due to have another baby any day now. We have a lot of older folks in our neighborhood and it's just starting to turn...so it would be really nice to make friends with them all as they come in! And would be even more helpful for us to remember their names!!

there are 6 units in my building, sadly we only know 2 couples by name. in our defense, we had a stripper living below us, so she kept very different hours than we do & one couple speaks no english, so we smile & nod at each other, but we don't converse, and the ppl in the other unit piss me off because they leave trash in my area in the carport & once he demanded i hand over my cell phone when i had no idea who he was & his wife had locked him out. we know the guy next door by name because he spends most of his time on his front porch and he has the same name we plan on naming a DS someday.

one hahah!! and the landlord. We technically know someone else who lives here because I knew him when we were kids but he doesn't know we live here.
We have lived here since October and people definitely keep to themselves.

hmmm! the three houses to the left of us are our good friends now, so we know all their names! and then a few others scattered around .. probably about 5-6 more couples.

@mrs. bird: How did you know your neighbor was a stripper?

We just moved in and haven't gotten to know any of the other unit owners on our floor yet.

None! I say hello to the ones I see regularly, but don't know any names.

Hm... my husband definitely knows more. he's lived in the neighbourhood since it was developed, as have a lot of our neighbours. I'm still learning our neighbours names who are right beside us. So, I'd say he knows about a dozen, and I know maybe 5.
despite my horrible memory, we have a really great relationship with all our neighbours (including xmas gift exchanges (usually cards and baked goods).
Funny story, when my husband first moved in, he noticed our one neighbour lady had cancer and been through chemo. She wore a scarf on her head and all that. He would often see her and her husband out and about and giving kisses and such. Then he started to notice the husband kissing another lady who often was with him at their house. He was so angry for the wife for a long time, and then realized that the wife was wearing wigs. They are our fav neighbours.

Tons. We live in a family-friendly community and our street is a cul de sac. We probably know around 30 names. And they all know our family well too. We also know the names of their dogs too. We love our neighbors (except for one who is just a grumpy old man).

All of them! We live in a 31 home subdivision, and DH is head of our property owners association, and he mows a lot of people's yards for them. I love it 95% of the time! The awkward 5% of the time is when he has to deal with a complain or dispute...but we really have great neighbors and a great little neighborhood!

We only know the names of our neighbors who live close by -- about 5 houses.

We know the names of our neighbors in the 2 houses that live to the left of us! They both have kids around the same age as DD, so we're often hanging out/talking in the driveway after work while the kids play in the cul-de-sac.

We moved here in December, and so we're only starting to see more people on the streets hanging out, but we know about 6 houses of people by name on our street, and more on neighbouring streets. We love our new neighbourhood!
To the Bees--why are you moving if you love your 'hood so much?

We know all three of the families on one side of us but neither of the families on our other side. We've only lived in our new house for 3 weeks, though, so hopefully we'll meet the rest soon.

@mrbee: she used to have babysitters show up late in the evening after her kid went to bed (you can hear everything in the building & the kid's bedroom was directly below our bedroom) & then she'd leave with this small trunk and hangers with stripper clothes & shoes & then she'd get back around 3am in full make up (we have lights on sensors, so she'd get home & the lights would all come on so i'd see her coming in, i'm not a great sleeper). i asked one of the neighbors i know what her deal was, and they told me what she did. made sense. then she got KU again & her family moved in and we never see her anymore. her parents don't speak english, but they are friendly with the ppl on the first floor that don't speak english either since the babies are the same age.

Hmm, 5 different neighbors... We know everyone right around us... Our neighbor across the street is who watches our son during the day!

We are new to the neighborhood (actually everyone is) so we know a ton of our neighbors. Our neighborhood is very social and we have block parties, etc.

This sounds terrible, but I don't know any of our neighbors. We are in a rental (yikes, been here for almost 2 years) until our house is complete. However, we know 4 to 5 neighbors where our new house is at.

Neighbor to our right and the neighbor to the front left of us.

We have only meet two people since moving in Feb. The houses right next store to us aren't friendly. We always wave when we see them but they don't wave back most of the time.

One. DH knows more though, he's the social one and he walks the dog more so he's out a lot.

On our small street of 12 houses, we know everyone's names except one house, but we know a few other neighbors who are on the next street over (maybe 3 more houses). Growing up, we never knew our neighbors, so I love that we all know and talk to eachother where we live now! We even have a facebook page for our street where we post warnings about shady people in the neighborhood or ask people to watch out for a package. Someone recently mentioned doing a block party on the fourth of July and I am SO excited!

We know 5-6 neighbors names, but they are all ones that live up the street or on another block not on our own street, they aren't as friendly!

We only know two of our neighbors by name, and only because they are our good friends who happened to move into an apartment next to ours.

Being military our neighbors change often
but I think currently in our neighborhood I know 13-15 neighbors.

Does my mom who lives a street over count?! lol
We don't really know any of our neighbors by name but do know most of their kids! lol I wave at the neighbors when I see them but that's about it.

Two - the old man across the street from us and the person living to the right of us.
Of course we just moved two months ago. Time yet to learn everyone's name!

all of the people in our little bungalow units (the parents of my good college friend own the property, so we filled it with people we know), her brother and his wife live across the street and then we know our other neighbors as well as another couple that lives down the street... so that's 7 families?
