In my youth (i.e. last year), I thought that first birthday parties were kind of silly. A one-year-old baby doesn't have any friends!

But then Hurricane Charlie landed and Mrs. Bee and I were incredibly busy for his first year. I was shocked: he didn't really meet many of my friends, just because we were too overwhelmed to make parental playdates for him to meet friends.

So that first birthday party actually became a nice way for my friends to meet Charlie for the first time. File that one under "Of Course"! I learned that in many ways, a child's first birthday party is more for the adults than for the child.

Or maybe that's just for me. How many of your friends did your LO meet in his or her first year? Or for your close friends that had babies, how many of them did you get to see in their first year on the planet?
