I recently tried to clean out our pots & pans, it was such a pile of crap, I had to stop & send a friend a pic of the mess I created on the floor. We had a bunch of hand me downs, and then a bunch of I had bought myself, then ones we got for our wedding, so now it's just a mishmash of things. I gave a bunch away while cleaning out, and still need to give up a few more!
This was 2/3 into emptying them...

Wow!!! That's alot of pots and pans. I have 4. 2 frypans and 2 pots (different sizes) plus a few cassorole dishes and pie dishes. I cook all the time and just have my set sizes I like. Anything else would be a waste of space!!

I think we have just the right amount. We have:
1 stock pot
1 Dutch oven
1 grill pan
1 non stick flat pan
1 non stick sauté pan
1 large sauce pan
1 sauté pan with lid
1 1-quart pot
1 wok which is never used
2 bake pans
1 muffin pan
1 loaf pan
2 casserole dishes

I have a lot (some here or in storage, some cheap, some expensive), but I only regularly use about 7 items:

medium sized stock pot with lid
high walled hard anondized saute pan
small frying pan (GreenPan brand) that can go in the oven
small saucepan with lid
1.5 cup saucepan, with pouring spout
cookie sheet with sides
ceramic baking dish

Right now my main pans are cheap and from IKEA (they go in the dishwasher) because I don't plan to bring them with us when we relocate. Eventually, we'll get All Clad pans, but not a set, we'll get them individually to add to what I have in storage.

too many to count... i have two entire sets that i have yet to touch from our wedding two years ago. need to reorg our kitchen cabinets before LO gets here.

Let's see if I can guesstimate...

1 Calphalon stock pot
2 Calpahlon saute pans, one small, one larger
2 Calphalon saucepans, one small, one larger
1 cast iron dutch oven
1 cast iron pan
2 cupcake/muffin tins
2 pie pans
2 baking sheets
3 glass casserole dishes (one is about half the size of the other 2)
2 "loaf" pans
1 brownie pan
1 double boiler

I could totally ditch the smaller saute and saucepans, and even the larger saute pan because it's still not large enough for most of what we do. The pie, loaf, and brownie pans are more "nice to have," but I use everything else! The multiple casserole dishes come in handy for holidays!
