We only had 1 for a five day beach trip last year for our 8.5 month old. We could've used one extra. I'd say 3 to be safe!

I think 2 is good because they dry pretty quickly.

2 would probably be fine. Especially b/c they spend a lot of time at the beach in a regular diaper.

We took two. She never pooped in them, so I rinsed them in the sink and hung them to dry.

@dagret: so do you just change them every time they want to go in the water?

@dagret: that sounds like a pain in the ass with a bathing suit. I didn't even think about when she was just playing in the sand.

We took 3 for a week. One to wear, one to hang dry, and one in case of an accident.

@Smurfette: oh yeah, i have a boy so it's not a big deal. But the swim diaper won't hold pee, so when she pees, it will be allll over you. And her. And stinky.

@Smurfette: when my DD was in diapers we used the Snap Me swimwear bathing suits - they have snaps in the crotch like a onesie does - made changing diapers or putting on a swim diaper a breeze!!!

@Mamaof2: She already has 6 suits, I can't buy her any more.

@Smurfette: how old is she now? Do you have a rash guard for her? You could always put her in a rash guard and a diaper. That's what I do when I'm feeling extra lazy.
To be honest, though, at 17 mos. L doesn't spend very much time at ALL in the water at the beach. It's too cold. (DE shore) The pool, on the other hand...

@dagret: She will 18 months when we go to the beach in Sept. That is a good idea! I was planning on her wearing her rashguards as much as possible, verses her other suits.

We just spent a week at the beach with 2. We only used both one day, I think. Though, LO only poops once a day at a regular time.

we have two. she's pooped in a swim diaper exactly once in the last year and she wears one at least every other day. when we were at the beach, we just had diaper free time (with a swimsuit) anyway once i knew she had pooped for the day.

@Smurfette: Not to encourage your rash guard/swim diaper shopping, but... adorable:
