I never went with either child before actually delivered! I'm super nervous with this one I might be at the hospital a lot before actually delivering.

Twice. Stayed overnight the first time and was on hospital bedrest for 10 days for the second. Hoping to have the most boring pregnancy ever this time.

I went once for what I thought was decreased fetal movement at 28 weeks but all was well. Didn't go back until delivery.

Once with my first, 3 times with my second (she was breech and I had preterm contractions from a week 30 on, so I was in there more than usual).
pomegranate / 3438 posts
Once with my first, my BP was high and the NST in the office wasn't conclusive so my Ob had me monitored for a couple hours. Everything turned out to be fine.
Zero with my second. BP was fantastic with that pregnancy!

Once. I had a lot of leaking fluid/discharge at 39+5 and was worried that I had a slow amniotic fluid leak. I also had daily, persistent, timeable Braxton hicks contractions from 26 weeks and on, and they got very painful by the end. So that wasn't a good indicator. No amniotic fluid though, just regular discharge. Baby was born 5 days later.

None with my first or second, once with my third. I had heavy bleeding and lots of contractions, so I wanted to get checked out. Turned out a had a placental abruption and I delivered a couple of days later. Thankfully everything was ok.

5 times total with DS, none with DD until planned c-section day. With DS-once to tour, once for preterm labor at 29 weeks (they stopped it and I was able to go home on bed rest later that night). Then, during labor, they sent me home 2x for not being far enough along. The 3rd time we went to the hospital, I was 4cm so I could stay.
Why so often? My body LOVES contracting during pregnancy, (ex: 60 contractions a day is a total normal day toward the end of pregnancy. That's not even labor for me.) So with DS, labor *started* with contractions 6 minutes apart, then remained at 3 minutes apart for the next 35 hours. So the 5-1-1 rule really doesn't apply to me. I had no idea when to come in, and the best the nurses could tell me was "come again when you think you should. You'll know." --- Um, nope. It was my 1st kid. I had no idea what go-time would feel like.

Once the day before. I was in labor (painful labor, 2-4 mins apart) but not progressing fast enough and I didn't want to stay and walk. When we went back 24 hours later they said they were expecting us back a few hours later not a whole day, and I was 8cm.
With #2 it was just for delivery, which thankfully happened significantly quicker!
With this one we are going to be 45 mins away, so I wouldn't be shocked if there were a false alarm.

Once with my first baby, when a routine ultrasound at 39 weeks showed that he was breech and they sent me to consult an OB, and once with my second when I went in to consult the OB in case I needed another c section, she thought the baby was having heart decels, and made me stay for monitoring for a few hours. Never thinking I was in labour, but I had two scheduled c sections.

@red_seattle: sooo agree with you about "you'll know." They told me "it'll get more regular and hurt more in the front than the back." Yet one of the last contractions before we decided to go in was 12 mins apart followed by 1-2 mins, and all in the back!! I was at an 8! So I'm pregnant with my third and still not sure what to expect this time around.

Went 2x for steroid shots to develop baby's lungs when I was about 28 weeks or so? I had short cervix/preterm labor and MFM sent me after an ultrasound. LO didn't end up coming early, thankfully.

Twice with my twins.
35+3 and 35+6 for elevated BP and protein in urine. Hooked me up to monitors for a couple hours then sent me home. Delivered at 36+4 when my pre-e was getting out of hand.

I was so afraid of going too soon or before I was actually in labor that by the time I actually went we got there and I was complete and already pushing!

With my daughter I honestly lost count. Maybe 5 times? I had a stomach flu that required IV fluids, I had heavy watery discharge and they were concerned about a fluid leak, and I had several bleeding episodes and early contractions. Blah. With my son I went twice before labor. Once for an NST/monitoring to see if I was having early contractions like I did with my daughter (because with her I couldn't feel them, we only found out about them during a bleeding incident). Then I went back at 36 weeks. Earlier that day I had been put on bedrest for high blood pressure, that night I was lying in bed and took a sip of water, I suddenly went extremely light headed and knew I was going to puke, I tried to get to the toilet but violently puked all over our bathroom, almost passed out, and wasn't sure if while puking my water broke or I peed myself Turned out I peed myself and the puking/light headedness was all just from high BP. They kept me over night and then sent me back home on bedrest. Made it 2 more weeks until I rolled over in bed and my water broke. It was 1am and I left my husband home with our daughter and drove myself to the hospital because I was so nervous we would call someone to come to the house and it would turn out I peed myself again

with DD1, twice: hospital tour and in l&d for monitoring as i came down with the flu at 38w3d. got tamiflu and finished the pack and had her like 2 days later!
DD2: never before i had her. they were too busy for tours!

Never! In fact, I went in at my midwife's insistence when we thought I was in very early labour to find I was 7cm,
persimmon / 1101 posts
Zero! I really didn't want to get turned away. The first time I went to my 38 week appointment and was 4+ cm dilated. The ob stripped my membranes, told me to walk and come back in a couple hours. The second time I went in to my 39 week appointment and was surprised to be told that I was 7-8 cm and had better get over to the hospital asap.
ETA I had TONS of contractions both pregnancies, so it was really hard for me to tell the real deal.

Once, I fell flat on my stomach during a photo shoot around 24 weeks. It was really scary. They monitored me for several hours. I was done shooting after that.

none. It was obvious I was in labor my first time and I was induced with my second.

With my first I went once for preterm labor. With my second I only went for delivery. This baby I haven't been yet (37w)

Once-newbie...oh wait maybe twice. I gotta ask my husband-it was all a blur.
apricot / 374 posts
I spent a night in L&D for hydration and monitoring at 34+3 after my doc measured low fluids during an ultrasound. They sent me back about three weeks later to be induced after my amniotic fluid was found to be low again.

Once for the tour and then not until I was in labor. I had been in labor for 24 hours at that point and then it turned out I was only 2 cm. I am so glad they didn't make me go home because the hospital is about 35 minutes away and I was miserable (turned out baby was sunny side up and I ended up with a c-section in the end - explains the back labor and no rest between contractions but only be 2 cm!).
pomelo / 5524 posts
If you're talking about feeling like I was in labor...just the day I actually gave birth for both. I had GD with my first, so I was in L&D for NST twice/week. But there was never a point where I was there to be monitored for preterm labor or anything like that!
grapefruit / 4455 posts
@petitenoisette: same thing happened to me. But I did got home and eventually give birth sunny side up.. I think it was fear of c section (thank you, internet and google) that kept me at home another 24 hours. I LOVED my epidural!
pear / 1521 posts
@2littlepumpkins: I didn't know she was sunny side up until she was born and I did fully dilate with the pitocin so I naively never thought I would end up with a c-section! I feel you on the epidural, I was soooo tired by the time I got to the hospital I needed it so badly just so that I could get some rest.
grapefruit / 4455 posts
@petitenoisette: I had a relatively small baby and have wide hips and I'm pretty sure that's the only reason it worked out for us. It took so long and it was such a rough start to motherhood looking back. I'm surprised they couldn't/didn't tell you she was sunny side up! how long did you have to continue labor before your c section? Hope not too long! I know the same thing must happen to a lot of people but Im glad you commented here, most people I know didn't have that long wait because of positioning- they either went straight to c sec or had maybe a total 24 hr labor. The only person I know who did it this way ended up with a baby positioned right but just too big.

1 with my first, not because I thought I was in labor, but because my doc sent me to triage due to my blood pressure being high.
pear / 1521 posts
@2littlepumpkins: Yea I remember at some point the midwives and nurses kind of whispering about maybe the baby was not well-positioned but for some reason they didn't know for sure until she was born? I hope they can tell for the next baby bc I'm not going through that again! Thankfully I got the epidural as soon as they admitted me so it was only slightly more than 24 hrs unmedicated. I pushed the next day for 4 hours and she wasn't coming out I do wonder if I had waited longer for the epidural if I would have had a different experience but I'm ok with how everything turned out.
I know what you mean about not hearing about people with super long labors, all the first time moms I know had much quicker labors.
pomelo / 5258 posts
Once. I was 30 hours into labor but sent home because I was only 1-2 cm. I went back 10 or 15 hours later and was admitted. I had 3 or 4 NST leading up to my two deliveries but they weren't at the hospital.
honeydew / 7235 posts
i didn't go in with my first until i was in labor. and with my second I went in once because i thought i was leaking fluid
apricot / 485 posts
None with my first as I never had prelabor and was induced. With my second I thought I had a small leak of fluid so they wanted me to come check. 3 hours later they had finally checked me and said no fluid and I was at 3cm so they had me walk around an hour to see if I was progressing but I did not in that hour even though my contractions were like 3-4min apart. So they gave me the option of staying and being induced or go home. So I went home shortly before noon, ate, and then went back 2 hours later ready for my epidural at 5-6cm

Ugh.
DD1 5 times
DS 3 times, though unrelated to pregnancy. Had a locked knee and even preggo they shot me in the bum w morphine to try to relax me enough to unlock the knee. A few attempts so had to keep going back (at 38w).
DD2 6 times.
My girl pregnancies are all drama. Bleeding and decreased movement. Silly ladies. Everyone ended up healthy and overdue. Once in labour I showed up at hospital and left with baby.
pomegranate / 3350 posts
Just once with my third. We didn't make it to the hospital where my practice was with my second so I was overly cautious the third time and immediately sent home.
With my second I did go in once too but it was because of bleeding, not because I thought it was time.
