I think I have an allergy to the main ingredient in Monistat because the times I've used it it literally feels like I inserted acid in me. There are other over the counter anti fungal medication or usually I call my OBGYN and they call in a prescription for Diflucain.

Omg I had that happen once and basically cried myself to sleep and stopped using it. Never used that stuff again. Get the diflucan if you can.

I have no idea if it's normal but I definitely had increased discomfort immediately after using monistat. It did seem to cure things after whatever the recommended time period though.

Probably not helpful to say but I passed out once when using the one day stuff because it was so intense. (I am a fainter and that isn't typical). I'd wash it out.

It was very uncomfortable the time I used the 1-day type. I would get your doctor to call in diflucan if I were you.

I had a similar reaction and was in a LOT of pain when I used it a couple of years ago. I ended up in the ER (it was Thanksgiving and the doctor's office wasn't open). Turns out I had a vaginal bacterial infection and needed antibiotics. I irritated it with the Monistat. I would say it wasn't just an irritable burn though, it actually brought me to tears because I was so uncomfortable... So hopefully this is not how you are feeling!

I am sensitive/allergic to it and it causes horrible burning. Unfortunately I also develop resistant yeast that can't be treated with diflucan- it does nothing. So monistat agony or sometimes borax (seriously) are the only options.

I didn't burn with Monistat the one time I used it, but it was so messy! Diflucan us the way to go.

@Miss Sarah: I had a similar infection right near the end of my pregnancy. Monistat irritated it as well. Cortisone cream is effective in relieving the itching feeling. Once I learned this, I survived a little bit longer in my pregnancy.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: *minister, lol.
I had burning when I used it, pretty bad in the beginning then it got better.... I would try to keep it. And agree on diflucan if you're not pregnant.

Monistat is horrible. See if you can find clotrimazole (generic of Gyne-Lotramin), it's a 10-day treatment which isn't as convenient, but it doesn't hurt and I find it works SO much better (if I use Monistat, the YI reoccurs about 50% of the time). And I usually start to feel better within a day or two, even though the full course takes longer.

Love diflucan, my OB office will just call it in.
Mobistat 7 is ok, I can handle. 3 and above is absolute misery. I could barely walk for a couple days...

@hellobeeboston: thank you! I mistype stuff on here all the time. Thank goodness for the Edit option.

@autumn865: Same! It felt like acid and I called my mom crying then drove myself to the ER. Awful. I have found that I can use the Monistat suppositories but not the cream.

The first time I used it, I accidentally got the "inside" cream on the outside (there was a separate tube of milder cream for use externally)
I thought I burned my privates off. Never made that mistake again.
