too much I was unemployed for over 3 years during which we got pregnant and had RJ. We've never been great with personal debt. We've taken a hard look at our finances this year and are being pretty disciplined now. We hope to eradicate all CC debt and start in on our student loans this year.

NONE.

I was naughty with credit cards in my very early 20’s and had to work really hard to learn about credit and get where I am now with finances. We do use credit cards for all purchases and to pay all bills (outside of mortgage and student loan payments) to rack up points, but we pay the card off in full every single month.

Happy to say zero! I still have student loans to pay off but as far as credit cards go we pay them off completely on a monthly basis.

@mrs. wagon: ditto! Not with not having a job but with having a lot of personal debt. We are pretty in the hole but have begun digging out!

Glad to see that none of you have credit card debt! Between the both of us we have about $10,000. Then I have another $10,000 in student loans. We are slowly but surely getting out of it, and the big thing is that we aren't adding to it anymore!

None. My parents didn't teach me much about budgeting and money, but they did teach me to pay off my credit card every month.

None for either of us. We use our CC for everything in order to rack up points, but we pay the balance off in full every time, always have. One month there was an issue with my email so I didn't get my CC statement through my e-delivery so I didn't pay the bill on time. My card company called me to make sure I wasn't dead since I'd never missed a payment in 5 years! Ha! So thoughtful. The good thing was they waived all the interest and late charges since it was obviously a technical issue.

Nothing. I was a bad spender straight out of college, then the economy died and DH's business didn't do well, so we racked up a lot of debt. Getting out of that led to a NEVER AGAIN mentality with us. We use CCs for the airline miles, but we never buy anything unless we already have the money available and designated for it in our account. That way we get the miles, but paying it off immediately means we have no standing debt.

Student loans are a different story.

No CC debt here either! I, too, was a bad spender in college and racked up a few thousand in CC debt. It was for stupid purchases too! I was only paying minimum balance since i didnt know a whole lot about finances, therefore I was just feeding my money to the CC companies by really only paying the interest and not lowering the principle. DH (bf at the time) agreed to pay it off for me if I promise never to hold a balance ever again. It's been 8 years and I pay off the balance every month. We charge everything though so that we can rack up rewards. I will never hold a CC balance again!!!

I have a $900 balance right now, I have always paid off my balance in full every month, but my husband was laid off for 6 months. I was the only one earning and it wasn't much so I paid what I could. I will be paying it completely and going back to norm soon.

When I got divorced (6 years ago) I had an American Express through costco (same deal, bought everything on it for points, then paid it off) my ex decided it'd be funny to rack up a huge amount and then empty our joint account. I did get it paid off, but it dented my credit.

My husband is another story, I don't know how much he owes and I really don't want to know.

I think fear is a powerful thing because that's the only reason I don't have any cc debt. I'm just too scared!

I used to have $18,000 in credit card debt. Now? I have $0 in credit card debt. I don't even own one anymore. My husband uses one and pays it off each month. It feels SO GOOD not to be tied down to that debt anymore!!

Zero. We pay the bill in full every month.

i used to have like over $8,000... when i charged a lot of things irresponsibly. did balance transfers, etc. but now, we pay off the balance every month. i have learned to not let cc debt get out of control.

None but looking at my grad school loan amount makes me want to puke. It will be all paid off in 6.5 years and then we can finally start really saving.

I totally understand though, if emergencies happen and you've got no other choice. Money is one of those things that works differently for everyone.

None. But when I was single and in my last relationship (in college) I had a ton! I would have been able to pay all of my debts off and have no student loans at all if it wasn't for my ex. It was a bad divorce and he basically bankrupted me.

I learned a hard lesson! I'm still paying for it in the student loans I personally didn't need. So although DH and I share a house and thinks we should consolidate our student loans, I've made it a point to pay it off myself to remind me of my stupidity! It's harder than you think when you live abroad, only work a few hours a week, while still contributing to household expenses.
