5 year undergrad ( I worked full-time ) first year private, last 4 state school. Included food, books and dorm first 2 years, then just tuition and some books last 3. I paid for off campus housing and all food/necessities after that. Left with about $17K in debt Not too bad considering it was about $8K a year even with my staff member rate starting my junior year.

Right around $175k all in (tuition, room, board, etc)

$110,000 sticker price, $65,000 in loans, so about $25,000 in scholarships and $20,000 in parent contributions. My parents could have helped a lot more (their incomes eliminated all federal aid options except unsubsidized loans) but they thought an RV, an SUV, and a house addition was more important. It was a private college and you paid per credit hour, but I can't remember how many credits I did..... I graduated in 2010.

I went to a private liberal arts college and got my degree in 4 years. I worked 3 jobs during the school year, had paid internships every summer, got scholarships and need-based aid, and came out with about $12K. Considering the year I started college it cost $36K and only went up every year from there, I am very grateful. Today my alma mater is one of the top 10 most expensive schools in the US!

I went to a private college. Tuition and room and board was $168k for 4 years. I took out $20k in student loans, and most of the rest was covered by scholarships and grants. I worked Summers and did work study jobs while in school, to cover the rest.

$0 undergrad - parents paid
$0 masters- employer paid

$10k plus about $100 book costs per semester. I went in state (GA) to a state school, and Georgia offers the HOPE scholarship if you maintain a certain GPA. When I was in school, costs weren't as astronomical as they are now so the HOPE paid for all my classes except for one extra semester I studied, and half my book costs.

I am forever grateful because I received zero financial help from my parents and couldn't even get financial aid because of their tax status.

Me:
Undergrad - State School completed in 3.5 years roughly $40K (including housing)

Grad - State School $15K (1 year Masters)
ETA: Parents graciously paid for my entire schooling and living costs as long as I got a job. Living expenses were tight requiring me to either budget tightly or get a second job in the summers - which I did). I also applied for and rec'd various scholarships totalling roughly $5K.

Undergrad - Private Catholic School $200K including housing
Grad (Law School - 3 years) - Private $200+K

ETA: IL's covered undergrad (incl. living expenses) completely. They did not cover any of his Graduate work.

FWIW - we make roughly the same salary now me 10 years in to my career and DH 5 years in to his.

I think it was around $28-$29K a year. A lot was covered by scholarships. I know my parents paid some monthly, not sure how much. I had about $20K in loans when I was done.

My parents started saving for college when I was a baby, so they were able to pay outright for my undergrad (which was about $11k/year for my state school). For grad school, I took out about $35K in loans to cover tuition and help with my rent.

4 years Tuition, Room, Board at a private college $100k. I had student loans of $17k when I graduated, my parents paid the balance. I paid off the loans in full about 6 years later.

2 years in masters program, covered primarily by tuition reimbursement and a 1 year "waiting period" post completion, I paid about half...I'd have to look it up to see the exact figures.

Went to a private school, about 160k for 4 yrs.

I got through the first two years without taking out any loans. The second two I needed loans for. I've got about $8k left to pay off.

Is it horrible that I'm not really sure? However for a 4 year private college I graduated with about $75k in loans.

For me personally, undergrad was $0. My parents paid and I also went to an in-state school, so it was really not bad at all compared to some. For grad, I had a scholarship for a couple semesters and ultimately took out about $20K in student loans for the rest. Still paying it off, but it certainly could be way worse. My H has zero debt so that helps.

Sticker price was $110,000 going to a 4-year private liberal arts school for undergrad. I received about $70,000 in school grants and scholarships, $20,000 was paid by my parents, and the other $20,000 were student loans that I took and paid for.

DH went to an in-state school that was around $32,000, and received $12,000 in scholarships. The remaining $20,000 was paid by student loans. He had no help from his parents at all.

First one to go to college in my family and knew from the beginning I would have little to no help financially. I went to a state-related (partial state funding) college and I left college with about 55k in student loans. I definitely don't regret the school or the program I graduated with. I was able to find a job (career) in my field right out of college due to the experiences I got.
I do think nowadays, it might be harder to get a job fresh from college. I probably would have to do more internships to get seen and stand out from the rest. I did delay my graduation by a semester so I could do a co-op (internship) and I don't regret that. I'm part of a small group that actually got a job with the degree I went to school for. Others asked for advice on how I got into the field and I always said you need to do an internship (co-op). You really did need hands on experience to get into my field.

So the student loans I got are totally worth it. Would have been nice to have my parents pay for it but considering my parents only finished high school in Vietnam and escaped from Vietnam to move to the U.S. to give us better opportunities, I am very proud to be the first one in my family to go to college.

I don't know the exact breakdown (the payment gets taken out every month, I hate looking at the balance), but 4 years of private undergrad + RD internship and grad classes were about 140k - I am paying back about 100k of it (and will be probably for the next 30 years )
