I knew very little, and had never changed a diaper, although I did a lot of reading. I think in some ways not having experience helped my transition, because I did not have any expectations. Mommy/daddy instincts really do kick in, and you do what you have to do.

I knew a bunch of theoretical stuff, barely any of which mattered at all.

I had only held one newborn, and that was just for a couple of minutes. I knew nothing.

Also... anything I've learned taking care of lo1 might be totally moot for when we have lo2... could be just a totally different baby.
