I currently pay about $160 a month towards my health insurance and my employer pays the rest. The HR at my company is going to get back to me with the exact numbers but It looks like its going to be more than double to add a baby to my premium. If you dont mind would you share how much your premium went up when you added your baby?

It was a little over $100. Honestly my hubby and I use our insurance so much (he gets a shot every week that is over $1000, we just pay $5 and that's just the beginning of our health costs) so I don't mind paying more.

I'm lucky now that I don't pay anything towards my insurance premiums, they're covered 100% by my employer. But when baby comes I'll need to pay about $210/month. My insurance is leaps and bounds better than DH's though, in cost and coverage.

I think it's about $130/month that we pay for her.

You guys are so lucky. My company only offers single and family plans, meaning it will cost the same if I add 1 or 10 kids (plus spouse). I will have to pay about $700 more for the baby. Since it will cost the same I will be adding my husband to the plan too.

Mine was $13 per paycheck for just me. It's going up to $143 per paycheck.

Wow, these jumps are huge! We pay $114/mo right now for hubby+me, and will pay $153 for full family that includes any number of kids. I feel so lucky!

I pay about $85 for insurance right now. My company only does single and family plans--the family plan is about $500!
I hate my husband's insurance plan (he had HMO and I have PPO) so we agreed that he'd switch to his company's PPO plan--it's about $200 for a family plan. I'm going to switch to the plan after the baby is born.

it went up $80 a month more, any children after him it will stay the same though since it changed to family coverage.

Ours went up $100 to add my husband and child to my insurance. Before that, my DH had his insurance through his employer but we found out it was cheaper to group us all as a family.

Thanks everyone, All your responses are very helpful! Ultimately its worth it for me to add the baby on to my insurance even if it will be a big chunk of payment each month because my insurance has been very great and has covered everything so far in this pregnancy

Our insurance is $278 for the two of us per month. It's going to be $623 per month when we add the baby. Sucks.

My insurance premium went up $18 per paycheck to change from self+spouse to family (includes any number of kids). My company covers 75% of insurance costs but luckily, DH negotiated with his company to cover our remaining 25% since he isn't taking coverage with his company. His comapamyvis saving big bucks for not having to pay for his coverage and we save - win win!

We pay for it privately and it went up over $200 a month. Health insurance is not cheap!

Our health insurance isn't employer paid or partially paid, so adding our son was like adding another person, another $200 per month.

We pay $89/month right now. It will go up to $121 after the baby is born. We have a high deductible ($3000/yr) POS plan.

I pay $40/month for me alone, it will go up to $60/month for me + baby.

I pay $160/month for my individual coverage, and to add a child would take my portion to $354/month. Upgrading to the family plan would mean I would pay $478 a month. It costs less to add children to my husband's plan, so that's what we'll do.

I pay $140 per month for myself currently, with the baby it will bump us up to $200 per month. DH's work pays for his insurance but if we add the baby to his plan it will will cost $200 us an additional $200 per month. Yikes!

I think it highly depends on what kind of insurance you have. At DH last job it cost us $300/month for just the 2 of us....since he has taken a different job and for the first 3 months his company doesn't offer him insurance so we have to go on mine....but my insurance is all high deductible (which is TERRIBLE!) and for the cheapest plan (a 4950 deductible PER PERSON!) we still have to pay 150/month. DH's insurance was a great plan too where you only had to pay copays....so yea...depends on the insurance!

Yet another reason I'm happy we moved to Canada. It's nice to not have to worry about raising premiums.
